I've always taken it to mean bothering other people about your version of God, as if they had never even thought about God before and it was up to you to 'splain it all to them so that this time they grok, because of your passion. And your insulting tone.

Commodore & Atari's Jack Tramiel Dead at 83

Commodore Pet, C-64, VIC-20, and then after Commodore Chairman Irving Gould fired him, he purchased Atari Computer from Time-Warner and brought out the Atari ST (aka "Jackintosh").

I never met him, and never wanted to. I knew his son, Leonard, who I would see at Infocom parties. His former VP of Sales was a good friend of mine, and once told me, "I love Jack like a brother, but when it comes to business, he only believes he's won when everyone else on the field is dead. Including his allies."

He had a reputation for screwing his suppliers, promising big orders, getting them to ramp up production and move everything to him and away from other customers to meet his requirements, and once they had done so, he would slash the price and volume he was willing to do and tell them to take it or leave it. After awhile, nobody of any quality or reputation would do business with him.

I knew Irving Gould, the man that fired him from Commodore and took over, fairly well. He was another piece of work. We used to describe Commodore under him as a stock scam that accidentally made a product. That was in the Amiga and CDTV days. Irving died a few years back.

I object to being asked whether I believe in god and, when I answer no, being asked if I know that I am going to Hell. This happens lots of places other than my front door on a Saturday afternoon.

Don't answer them. Sing at them instead. I have chased away all kinds of God Botherers by singing at them. Battle Hymn of the Republic, When the Saints Go Marchin' In, or an operatic Lord's Prayer. It depends on the mood I'm in which song I sing at them. But they slowly back away and leave.

I think I might be arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. There was a time when I could sing.... Unfortunately, I was a treble at the time, and it passed very quickly.

Something from "Carmina Burana" or "The Sicilian Vespers" would work too. :D

Dang. If this doesn't make me accept the fact that I'm not still a teenager, nothing will.

RIP Levon Helm.

Singer and drummer for the great group "The Band" of "The Last Waltz" fame.

I was fortunate to see him perform at an outdoor festival show in Lewiston Maine in the early 80's (Double-bill with the Grateful Dead).

He will be missed. :(

That makes three from the band.

It's too bad that he and Robbie never let bygones be bygones.

For both Levon (at 2:28) and Earl Scruggs (at 1:37).
