Rep. Kucinich sues over olive pit in sandwich
By ANDREW MIGA , 01.26.11, 02:56 PM EST

WASHINGTON -- Democratic congressman Dennis Kucinich of Ohio has sued a congressional cafeteria for dental damage he says he suffered after biting into an olive pit in a sandwich wrap he bought there.

Kucinich's attorney, Andrew Young, declined to comment Wednesday on the lawsuit seeking $150,000 in damages from companies involved with the Longworth House Office Building cafeteria.

Really? $150,000?

Quote:
"Said sandwich wrap was unwholesome and unfit for human consumption in that it was represented to contain pitted olives, yet unknown to plaintiff contained an unpitted olive or olives which plaintiff did not reasonably expect to be in the food prepared for him, and could not visually detect prior to consumption," the lawsuit reads.

Kucinich, who as a member of Congress receives dental coverage among the health care insurance he is entitled to receive, alleged in the suit that as a result of his consumption of the unwholesome and unfit food, the plaintiff "sustained serious and permanent dental and oral injuries requiring multiple surgical and dental procedures, and has sustained other damages as well, including significant pain, suffering and loss of enjoyment."

Asked about the suit, which cost $120 to file in the D.C. Superior Court, Kucinich attorney Andrew Young told Fox News, "This is a private matter that needs to be tried in the courts and not in the public media."

I don't think this is going to go so well for Dennis.

What the hell is Kucinich thinking?!

I guess he isn't planning to run for POTUS in 2012!

Is it just me, or does this:

Quote:
the plaintiff "sustained serious and permanent dental and oral injuries requiring multiple surgical and dental procedures, and has sustained other damages as well, including significant pain, suffering and loss of enjoyment."

kinda sound like Kucinich is pissed that dental issues interfered with his sex life?

The code words for that would be "loss of consortium" or "loss of society."

So is "loss of enjoyment" basically "I was too snowed on painkillers to really pay attention to 'What Not to Wear'"?

Why? Why is damage to one's teeth less compensable because it is from an olive pit than if it arises from buckshot in a hamburger or a stray bit of metal? If he really did bite into something in a sandwich or wrap that caused serious medical issues, why is he less entitled to compensation because it is from an olive pit?
