Doc's site appears to be completely down again.

Well the site got back up last night and ran for a while until this morning. It's down again, but apparently it's not just my site but a general problem with the cloud.

Sucks.

Is it an Internet outage or is the server down?

Hi Kevin,

I am sorry for the delay in our response and for the downtime. We have encountered some problems with the new disks on our Cloud Hosting and we are moving all servers to the old disks now.

I hope that within next one hour your site will be online. I will keep you posted.

Dear Customers,
As you may be aware there was a failure on the cloud hosting platform
earlier today. This appears to be linked to a filesystem issue on the
cloud storage. As such we have taken the decision to roll back to a
backup of the cloud hosting platform that is 2 days old to allow sites
to be restored.

** We aim to restore the full cloud platform, with current data,
within 12-24 hours **

As a temporary measure we have blocked incoming email to avoid any new
emails getting lost. Any pending emails will be stored temporarily on
backup email servers. Once the cloud platform is fully restored we
will allow these emails to flow into the restored service. Whilst we
do understand the importance of email we have taken this decision to
make sure no email is lost or left out of sync. All other functions
(website/control panels) are up and running.

We apologise for this outage, and are working as quickly as possible
to restore service.

Once this is restored we will be sending a full RFO (Reason for
Outage) to customers, including any credits that are due under the
SLA.

I have a backup of the database containing all the articles and comments as of the date of the move, but not since then. Unfortunately I do not have a backup of the data -- all the images that appeared in the articles. Unfortunately I too the expedient of speed over safety when switching sites. Losing the images would be a near disaster, I think.

At least I'm retired so I have time to work on it.

My temporary emergency email address is doc@drconspiracy.com. If you PM me at the Fogbow, just make sure that your profile is set up to receive PMs back. Some folks have PM'ed me here to which I have been unable to reply.

Seems to be a lot of that going around.

I'm talking at you, TomTech.

Sorry I made light of your problems Doc. I know this must be frustrating. You went through a lot of work to move the blog.

TomTech PM'd me but wouldn't accept a PM back from me. I wonder what gives.

Best of luck DrConspiracy!

OK, I have a temporary web page up at ObamaConspiracy.org where you can check status at least. The hosting company says 12-24 hours before they have everything restored. I guess these "cloud servers" aren't as solid as they claim. ?(

Update: 4-Feb-2012 10:03 PM: I've gotten a backup of all the images and files from the old site. So even if all is trashed, I can recover to the point of the move. All articles since the move are on my hard drive. I hope "restore the full cloud platform, with current data" means the new stuff will be saved too.

When we finally do get up, I will be publishing my new article:
Arrogant Apuzzo attacks Atlanta ALJ

Looking forward to reading that, Doc. :D

I am not sold on this "cloud". I thought the internet was a cloud, but eh. I wonder how they borked a filesystem...that is very hard to do unless they bought crappy cheap drives.

I have received PM's from Foggy and Realist, but I see nothing from either of you. I didn't know there was a problem.

I just discovered that "Allow PM from Users" was set to off and corrected it and enabled E-mails.

DrC's site has been giving me a 404 error all evening.
Good luck Doc. Hope you can get the site back together soon.

I'm on Firefox.

I just get a message that OCT is taking too long to respond. No funky codes are displayed.

You have Apuzzo's attention. He posted your status message in a comment preceded by this snark:

It's rather surprising that Apuzzo would advertise an article that I wrote (and will publish) that is critical of him.

Fortunately, I took screen shots of his blog, so he can't erase what he said.

Still down. Status information still at Doctor Conspiracy.

Since the site's been down, I've had some extra time on my hands, some of which I've invested in the Arrogant Apuzzo article.

It's a shame that Apuzzo didn't participate in the Atlanta case. It would have been much more interesting.

The one area of the article that I'm not 100% satisfied with is the ending. I've tried to come up with the best possible video to express the concept of "annoying." The French knight taunting King Arthur in Monty Python and the Holy Grail was good, but it moves rather slowly. I have currently have an annoying song video which will do.

BTW, isn't the Super Bowl tonight??

OK. This is bizarre. I contacted a support manager at VPS.NET because I wasn't getting any solid information on when I should be back up. I wrote:

I've been down almost 5 hours and I have no idea why, what you're doing to correct it, or when I can expect to have my service restored.

I finally got this response from management:

Thats great to hear! Do please let us know if there is anything else that we can help you with

I just visited the temporary URL and it looks like Doc's site is back. He probably needs some domain name bit twiddling to happen before all our bookmarks work.

Let it be known that "gorefan" was the last post before the break. Its his/her 'fault'.

OK, not the last post before the break, just the last post before the backup.

Go easy on me folk. This is my first post on Foggy's camp noticeboard.
