Four years ago, a friend talked me into doing this 10-week fitness program called the Ultimate Bodyshapong Challenge at our local dojo. It involved three days of cardio kickboxing and three days of strenth training with the bands. I had not been a much of an indoor exerciser before, because we were always outdoors hiking, rafting etc. But this was way fun. Mimi, the instructors kept us laughing, especially for the first 5 weeks.

Those first 5 were brutal. I almost quit, every day. But I didn't, and I lost not so much pounds as inches, 4 in all the measured places, and dropped two sizes. So, i did the program again, and again, consecutively for 18 months. But... A body this old was not meant to pound so hard on the joints. I wrecked my knees, but I have a mean left hook and my side kick is a thing of beauty. :D

Now it's walking and water workouts for me. I like my knees and don't want to replace them with the latest model just yet. :D

Mimi, you said you wor out M, T, W and H. For Estiveo, I think that H day would be would be Hellfreezesover; what day is it for you?

I'm not sure I could do that. But, I might give it a try. Idunno. Things hurt now.

I never had problems with my knees. I was never a runner. I did used to do those step aerobics classes way back 25 years ago, but I always took classes from Randy. The ladies who instructed were always having knee surgery (in their 20's!). Randy's classes were not quite as high impact, and I preferred looking at him doing the moves anyway. Yes I did.

I'm having pain in my foot and in my hand. But that's because I hurt both last summer. You know, I just fell (tripped over a dog) and landed on my foot kinda goofy. I am just so graceful! Anyway, it hurt. I put ice on it. Now, it just hurts a little sometimes.

I did something to my thumb while spray painting some wicker, and now my hand hurts most of the time. But just a little hurt, nothing big. I lost strength in it too, I can't do normal stuff with that hand. No big deal. I notice that I overcompensate with the other hand.

Dojo? I took karate lessons for a few months when I lived in Richmond. I didn't really do well at the karate stuff. But I had lots of fun at the classes. At that particular point in my life, those classes were just the right thing for me to do.

I'm happy with the gym I'm going to right now. All those other things are pricier. This gym is great for my needs.

Yesterday, I saw a guy (who reminded me of Hawk) using a piece of equipment. Idunno. Maybe it's a dip bar. He was huge. So after he's done, I go over to give it a try. Yeah, I could do 5! With his encouragement and tutelage. And then 5 more. Oh boy, do I have work to do. :P

I went today. I hate the treadmill. But, I did it. I did the crunch machine thing. I am really bad on that. I just hope I keep improving.

Wuz brushing my teeth this morning and this thread popped into my head.

I remembered that my Dad said "brush your teeth after dinner and you won't want to snack in the evening." :D

One of my co-workers (evening shift) brushed her teeth before heading home so that she (1.) wouldn't be tempted to eat and (2.) could go right to bed without the bracing minty toothpaste wiping away her drowsiness.

Yay Mari! First steps in an eggzellent plan! Sugar must go! If cyan avoid hurting anyone for a few days, that craving will pass. I got a gift certificate to Ulta, which carries the Bare Minerals line I love, so more makeup for me, too, in 2011.

Another storm is preventing my walking :D . The mountains behind me have a dusting of snow, it's beautiful outside...and too freakin' cold for this California girl. I'll do the Pilates workout on Netflix instead today.

He should be back to school but Sprout is still sick, so I'll start the water class next week.

The United States government has voted, and - if my interpretation of the law is accurate - all US-based web hosts are now required to list calorie counts for each item in their monthly newsletter.

This month's newsletter has been carefully proportioned and dietetically designed to ensure that you won't consume more than 2200 calories by the time you're through with it.

Men and women have different caloric needs, so women may want to skip the survey at the end. Men may want to read this section again.

We would recommend you read this newsletter at the start of your day and only consume portions of it when you start to feel hungry.

This is what I was doing when I was at the beach.

well, minus the cool shoes and those squatty kinda stretches. I think those are both interesting though.

I gotta get back to it again.

I have not been able to do the interval training on my home treadmill. I try, but I get a headache as soon as I kick it up to sprint speed. I wasn't having this problem at the gym, so it's just weird. Unless it comes and goes. Idunno. (someone suggested I check blood pressure, but I never had a problem with blood pressure before. I suppose I'll see if I can borrow a whatzchamacallit to check it before and after trying the sprints.)

I have no problem doing 30 minutes at a jog. I just can't seem to kick it up without a headache coming on right away. And I never get headaches.

Another friend suggested I try taking an aspirin before trying it. I might try that too. I have to go buy some. (I don't get headaches, so I don't have anything at all here.)

I saw this guy's book on the scribd. A few of them.

As a vegetarian, the total plan wouldn't work for me. I don't know if it's a good plan or not.

http://www.scribd.com/doc/48383050/Prim ... ook-083010

His blog is here:

http://www.marksdailyapple.com/

I don't like him. But, I'm going to look at his videos. He has videos that go with that fitness ebook I linked to above.

I can't do even one push-up anymore. grrrr. So, he has a progression method.

He has progressions for a bunch of different exercises at his YouTube Channel:

http://www.youtube.com/user/MarksDailyApple#p/u/

I just dislike him. (I do like a lot of other fitness people on the intertubes. This guy just bugs me.)

I realize now how lucky I was to have my friends Bill & Dave training me way back when. I didn't even realize they were training me on the lifting days. I was just having fun. I miss them.

So, enuf of my whining. How is everybody else doing?

I'd suggest you see a doctor about that headache symptom, mimi. Unless your friends are doctors. It could be nothing serious at all but it could be otherwise.

Mimi, I had a small stroke a couple of years ago that started with unexplained headaches and a series of vertigo incidents that I ignored.

I don't want to scare you or anything... but don't do what I did. Ask a doc.

I was doing great, had lost about 5 pounds, was walking every morning for an hour and doing Pilates at home three days a week.

Then Sprout stopped going to school and wouldn't let me out of his sight. I haven't been to the garden where I walk for almost three weeks, have gained all that weight back and my back is out so I can't do Pilates until it's settled.

I will be fit in time for NOLA. I promise that to myself.

Thanks to a horrific cold last month that totally knocked me on my (substantial) ass and killed my appetite, I finally crossed the 35-pound threshold and have stayed there. Three more pounds and I will have lost 40, but I'm not trying that hard, so it's not happening. At least I'm not gaining the weight back, though.

My best friend and I are hoping to go to London in July, so I'm trying to use that as motivation to have lost 50 by then. It's totally doable, but I haven't been so good about the doing. Besides, another 10-15 pounds have to make sitting in coach for 10 hours a little more bearable...

I've lost between 20 and 30 pounds this year, not because of any effort on my part, but because my injuries and illnesses seriously depressed my appetite. I should probably try to keep them off through deliberate dieting, rather than by merely wasting away.

Went to the new gym today for the first time in 2 months. Super easy cuz I know I won't be able to move tomorrow. Bike 15 min, arm bike 5 min, circuit 20 min (light weight, 1 set each), 10 minutes stretching, 10 minutes in the whirlpool, 20 minutes trying not to faint in the locker room. [-X Bit overheated.

But I DID it. My face -->

oh good, W4.

I think I found mari's 3/4 lb. Plus another one.

I went twice this week, and i did my treadmill twice.

I suppose I should find my way back over there today.

I am envious, not that I like going to the gym, but I like to hike and bike.

Looks like I have a new diagnosis: Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), so there is a possibility that a nerve block will help and I'll be getting fit again too! :D [-o<

After you do it a fewmore times, W4, your face won't be so  and you won't feel like ](*,) , and then after a few more few more times, your body won't want you to =; and you will feel all :xo about exercise.

I'm walking again every day at the garden, which is bursting into bloom. Each day is better. Yesterday I locked my keys in my car  at the farmers market. Since spares cost about $800, I dont carry one. I decided to walk home and get Hubby's keys, then walked back to the car since he was under his truck working on whatever had gone wrong with it this week (it's a '49 Ford 3/4 ton pickup, something is always wrong). Its uphill both ways  but it barely fazed me.

I've lost 10 lbs so far this year, working on another 10 before our Mai Gras celebration, at which I plan to strap on 10 more delicious Cajun lbs. :D
