Back in doG's country as of last Sat. Drove 700 mi. across Mexico from Guad to Laredo in one day. Several sections of recently opened toll road make the trip much easier. Experienced no gunfire or dismembered narcos.

Glad to see that Team Fogbow is still on patrol! :D

Have a wonderful time - check in frequently - dish the dirt - and get back to W2 soon to start off that second year!

I'll be hit or miss for the next month or so. Off to the Big Island tomorrow, and NY right after that.

I will be spending less time on the site in the next week than I would like.

I met with the attorney who is running for an appeals court seat in my district today and I agreed to set up his campaign website. It's actually a paying gig.

During the meeting, he was explaining why he is running against this judge and the basis of the decision which was the tipping point. I was asking pertinent questions and showing that I understood the minutia of his presentation.

He eventually asked me, are you a lawyer? I actually said "no, but I read The Foxbow".

I have full set up access to the control panels, set up the e-mail system, and installed Joomla as the backbone for the new site. I could have done more, but he made a typo in writing his own e-mail address when he purchased the host and that prevented me from getting started for about 5 hours.

Arrived last night in a downpour at Bethany Beach. Today is Bee-utiful! Here for a famibly weekend since we have my Dutch B-I-L, British S-I-L  here visiting from London we are meeting up with the Jooish cousins from Philly. OMG what a crew! Everyone talks at the same time, no one listens, trying to gather the troops is like herding cats. Lots to drink and eat....

"HAY is there pork in that?" .... "Who gives a shit pass it over I'll eat it!"  Whose got the wine?....  HAY! that's my beer, give it back!...

Flea Market early this AM, then off to shop on the strip. Found an OH SO CUTE little beach dress which I will wear tonight to the cookout. :D

Now home to change into beach wear, grab sun screen, hat, towel, book, and off to the beach!

WooHoo!

Later Gaters!

I travel. A Lot.

And this is a new one I've never seen before.

The hotel here in Hong Kong will have the electricity off from 1 to 4 am. Air conditioning will still work, but lights, intertube, elevators, & other stuff will be gone. Wakeup calls will be done by a guy banging on the doors.

Why? Kind of a neat idea, there is a building regulation here that any building that has an approved loading exceeding 100A has to have the system inspected every 5 years.

It's a good idea I think, but boy can you imagine the outrage if something like this was implemented in say Chicago? "Big Brother is depriving me of the right to have an electrical fire, smaller govt!"

Is the fire protection and alarm system off too? If it is, I would leave that hotel. I hope you counted how many doors between your room and the stairway when you first got to your room anyway, too.

Fire detection isn't addressed in the nice letter they gave us, but I suspect it will revert to battery power. Hallway emergency lights will be on, and the service elevators will still be operative. Ya can get a flashlight from the hotel, but I have 3 with me so....

You sure it's 100A? The average newer house here in the U.S. is generally wired for 200A+. Seven or eight air conditioners alone will put you at your 100A level. I suspect what they are doing what is known as "peak shaving." It can result in considerable savings in larger industrial-type institutions here in the U.S.

Edit: Let me add the 200 amp service here is somewhat similar to 400 amp service there since I presume they run 220 volts as their standard. Our standard is around 115 volts.

100 A is what it says on the lovely letter. And yea, 220V, 50 Hz.

I'm not, but a friend of mine is coming over from Israel for it, and stopping by here on the way. I'm sure I'll get a report.

Just got back from two weeks that included Canterbury, England; Prague and northern Austria.

And finally got to scratch another one off of my personal bucket list with Mrs. Ipsa:\

Despite having a population of only 104, the village has become famous for its name in the English-speaking world. Its road signs are a popular visitor attraction, and were often stolen by souvenir-hunting tourists until 2005, when they were modified to be theft-resistant.

The summer I was 16, I spent 4 weeks working in Coventry Cathedral as part of a youth program.

It had only been 5 years since the new cathedral was consecrated, so there were lots of people coming to see it for the first time. I was a tour guide, bussed tables in the refectory, worked in the gift shop and dug turnips in the bishop's garden with about 4 dozen young people from all over Europe and America. For a kid from SW Alabama, it was a mind-expanding experience.
