I was happy to read in the paper on Sunday that the local talk radio station is dumping both Beck and Hannity beginning in January. Although they are keeping Rush, the station said that advertisers prefer local programming so they are filling the early and mid morning and late afternoon and early evening time slots with local programming. Actually 3 - 7 will be Michael Smerconish with the 1st hour local, and the last 3 hours syndicated, but he broadcasts from Philly.

The article said that the 9 hour time block of Beck - Limbaugh - Hannity was basically the same viewpoint repeated all day and they wanted to get other voices. Since they mentioned advertisers as a reason for the change I wonder if they have gotten complaints about the content on Beck & Hannity, or if it was just that advertisers prefer "the local read" as they said in the story.

I don't know who will fill all of the slots yet - the morning guy will be the current evening guy who is pretty hard core RW - but at least those 2 voices may be gone from the Philly airwaves. The article did say that Beck and Hannity both had to have broadcasts in all of the top 10 market areas and Philly is # 8 (I think it had to do with their advertising deals) so they are searching for a new station. But at least 2 or 3 stations were quoted as saying they had no intention of changing their current programming. Obviously that can change at any time, but we will have to see.

Tallulah was saying that on the Patriot's Heart Show the other night. I suppose that's what they are saying all over Wingnuttia.

I think it may be that Hannity Beck are too expensive.

Spotlight From Glenn Beck Brings a CUNY Professor Threats
By BRIAN STELTER
Published: January 21, 2011

On his daily radio and television shows, Glenn Beck has elevated once-obscure conservative thinkers onto best-seller lists. Recently, he has elevated a 78-year-old liberal academic to celebrity of a different sort, in a way that some say is endangering her life.

Frances Fox Piven, a City University of New York professor, has been a primary character in Mr. Beck’s warnings about a progressive take-down of America. Ms. Piven, Mr. Beck says, is responsible for a plan to “intentionally collapse our economic system.”

Her name has become a kind of shorthand for “enemy” on Mr. Beck’s Fox News Channel program, which is watched by more than 2 million people, and on one of his Web sites, The Blaze. This week, Mr. Beck suggested on television that she was an enemy of the Constitution.

Never mind that Ms. Piven’s radical plan to help poor people was published 45 years ago, when Mr. Beck was a toddler. Anonymous visitors to his Web site have called for her death, and some, she said, have contacted her directly via e-mail.

You know a bullet is to good for this piece of human waste. We as Americans have a BIG problem in front of us and it SOON is going to take some real MEN to stand up and answer her call to protect her from scum like this pig along with all the other liberal elites she calls comrades.

The question you need to ask your self is when the time comes WILL YOU BE READY to answer that call to defend America from all enemies both foreign and domestic because the time to do so draws very near.

Remember what Glen has told us on many of his shows to prepare ourselves and family’s by stocking extra food and water for the troubled times ahead, i hope you are heeding his words of wisdom because once it starts it will be too late then to prepare to protect your family.

Ugh. These are selected comments, but they're not picked out of comments calling for reason and calm. And this is TODAY.

EDIT: I whistled my own post, because I wouldn't mind guidance from moderators on how far is too far when it comes to quoting hate and violent rhetoric.

Glenn Beck would love some murders on his account. After all, until he does that, he's not in the disgusting Nancy Grace's league. Deaths blamed on him would be big ratings and would give him several months of material for his show. I'm sure Roger Ailes wouldn't mind, either, as long as the collateral damage is slight.

My wish for Glenn Beck's future is simple. My wish is that in 30 years, when he is long-retired from show biz and his brand of "patriotism" is out of favor, he may be the object of some ranting, tin foil hat wearing lunatic on the channel beamed directly into our plastic ear piece receivers.

I'm glad to say that there's been at least some clean-up of that thread I saw yesterday, along with some calls from other commenters to tone it down.

This doesn't happen everyday.

Quote:
(Reuters) - Four hundred rabbis will publish a letter on Thursday calling on Fox News to sanction host Glenn Beck for repeated use of Nazi and Holocaust imagery and for airing attacks on World War Two survivor George Soros.

In an open letter to Rupert Murdoch, the chairman of News Corp, which owns Fox, the rabbis also demand an apology from Fox News chief Roger Ailes for characterizing Beck's Jewish critics as nothing more than "left-wing rabbis."

The letter will appear as an advertisement in the News Corp-owned Wall Street Journal on Thursday for which the rabbis spent more than $100,000, a spokesman said.

From the man who gave you Sarah Palin, Bill Krystol speaking about Egypt

But hysteria is not a sign of health. When Glenn Beck rants about the caliphate taking over the Middle East from Morocco to the Philippines, and lists (invents?) the connections between caliphate-promoters and the American left, he brings to mind no one so much as Robert Welch and the John Birch Society. He’s marginalizing himself, just as his predecessors did back in the early 1960s.

Krystol is a regular on Fox News and maybe Becks star is stating to burn out.
I see that Bill O'Reilly had President Obama on his show prior to The Superbowl (whatever that is) and the President acquitted himself well. O'Reilly said that President Obama will be back again on a regular basis. Is Fox News coming round to the Presidents side or do they see which way the wind is starting to blow.
Rupert Murdoch really only cares about 2 things, money and power, and if giving some support to President Obama helps him get these, well, so be it.

As long as they are polite, civil, and not playing reindeer games, Fox SHOULD welcome him. After all, he IS the President of the US whether Oily likes it or not. He is news.

Its probably more that Becks ratings are down 50% from 3 million to 1.5 million.

In addition to Beck's total stupidity, listening to Bill O'Reilly repeatedly say "forment" instead of "foment" was maddening. Thanks PD!

Looking like Henry Kissenger doesn't make one as knowledgable as Kissenger in world affairs. Although the typical FOX viewer couldn't tell the difference.

New Republic March 3, 2011 The Decline of Glenn Beck: What caused it?
Quote:
Meanwhile, as a group, prominent conservatives have seemed more willing to speak out against Beck recently. Though some on the right always disparaged him—several profiles last year included anonymous Fox insiders criticizing Beck—almost none were willing to do so with their names attached. Recently, however, conservatives have been criticizing Beck openly. Bill O’Reilly, who feted him for an hour after the Restoring Honor rally, has rapidly become more and more dismissive. The Weekly Standard’s Bill Kristol has criticized Beck’s “rants about the caliphate taking over the Middle East.” Conservative Washington Post blogger Jennifer Rubin called Beck a “ranting extremist,” and former Bush administration staffer Pete Wehner wrote for Commentary’s website, “If conservatism were ever to hitch its wagon to this self-described rodeo clown, it would collapse as a movement.”
