Hmm, that video is called "waiting for a Texas freight train to pass". In fact, it was significantly shorter than most I've been seeing here since I have been alive. These folks are nutz. Pure and simple, nutz.

BNSF coal trains that went through here (prior to the flooding) were approximately 110 cars long. St Joseph has many grade crossings which can add to your delay. It was worse before the Chicago and Northwestern Railway removed their tracks. You could find yourself waiting for 80-100 various freight cars to pass then have to wait again a few blocks later for a coal train to clear.

If there are cross bucks and warning lights there will occasionally/often be trains. Even 5 year olds can figure that. But then again, the average 5 year old hasn't been experimenting with modern chemistry or alcohol.

Many years ago, when I was very young, I went to a firm function in the country with a partner in his Porche Carrera. We came upon a train crossing, so he pulled a U turn, drove to a package store we'd passed a mile back, bought a six-pack of beer (this was when it was still legal to drink while driving in Tejas ), and we returned to the train crossing, where we each finished our first beer before the train passed. I always think of that when I get stuck at a crossing.

Back before ordinary families had television sets, my parents used to drive me and my brother down to the Cotton Belt tracks to see the trains come through. There were usually several dozen families doing the same thing. The trains were a sign of prosperity. Now they are evidence of a government plot. I don't remember anybody thinking that way back then. Everybody suspected the Soviets of having secretly infiltrated agents throughout the East Texas oil field, however. Maybe when the big external enemy disappeared, some folks had to find an internal enemy?

I think there's a great deal of truth there.
