Memo to WND: When using a large screen monitor at your presser, avoid having annoying distracting screen savers installed.

What, did it start to play Farah or Corsi's leather bear picture collection??

Yeah, WTF? They could have - at the very least - used one of those FOX [false] flag graphics... The (formerly stunning) consistently substantial lack of judgment regularly shown at the highest levels of WND pervades...

Ten years ago, I was back in full time study for a new degree. One day during a class in which several students were doing Powerpoint presentations, one of the lads went to the front and plugged in his laptop prior to giving his. While he was busy looking over some notes, his desktop appeared on the large screen at the front of the lecture room. It was covered with shortcuts to porn sites (he was breast man, as I recall, as well as a fan of girl-on-girl action). As more and more people noticed, the stifled giggles going around the room got louder and louder until he finally looked up and saw what everyone was laughing at. To this day, that poor boy's face is what I see whenever I hear the term "deer caught in the headlights." ;)

I know facts and WND don't mix but the problem with the flashy screen wasn't the laptop, it was due to a nasty, cheap ass plasma monitor having a very slightly out of sync refresh rate with a nasty cheap ass video camera not capturing video fast enough, leading to the strobe effect.

Cheap ass and nasty, sums up WND perfectly.

Ok, over at ORYR, they're posting an audio clip from Zebest and Corsi on the Peter Boyles show.

Apparently, someone named Larry called in and said info in the LFBC pdf header indicates it was created by "Darrell." But Boyles' crew confirmed the name was actually "Derek." And they have a link to Derek R.B. Douglas, a special assistant on the president's White House Domestic Policy Council.

I am shocked, SHOCKED, to learn that an image file scanned at the White House and posted on the White House website at whitehouse.gov has metadata that implicates that a White House employee was somehow involved with said image file.

I looked at the pdf file, and found that the same string is shown in every pdf-1.3 file created on a Mac. When the high bits are dropped, as Dr C has show, it becomes derek s PDF.

Why Derek somehow owns my computer is beyond me... So the more likely interpretation is that the comment is inserted by the Quartz software on a Mac

The hex string is

Quote:
25 50 44 46 2D 31 2E 33 0A 25 C4 E5 F2 E5 EB A7 F3 A0 D0 C4 C6

which translates to

%PDF-1.3

On the subject of "Derek," this was posted on Corsi's Facebook page:

Quote:
!PDF is a port of the program xpdf from Derek B. Noonburg. The xpdf software and documentation are copyright 1996-1998 Derek B. Noonburg. Finding "Derek's File" in the White House birth certificate -- a suggestion of a caller during yesterday's Peter Boyles show from Denver DOES NOT identify Derek Douglas in the White House as involved.

The obvious question this raises to me: so what was up with the folks on the radio talking about the spelling of "Derek"? That's a perfectly ordinary and widely-used spelling.

And another question I have: aren't we about three weeks past the disclosure "next week" of the person who forged the pdf? What's up Jerome?

I was just about to post exactly that. Birthers, being both incredibly stupid and ignorant on every subject known to man, are prone to look at completely normal things and come up with crackpot conspiracy theories about them. Obviously, Derek and the Dominos are completely unfamiliar to them, too.

LOVE that movie. LOVE even more that speech.

I used to like that movie, but several years ago, I realized that I REALLY disagree with one of the movie's central arguments.

Yeah, you're right about that, and it's something I've thought about. I just sort of decided that I enjoy so much of everything else going on in the movie that I kinda put that aspect on a shelf and ignore it, but only for the purpose of the movie. If something like that were to happen in real life, that'd be a whole different story!

100 books.

Wow!

Why is it that searches of numerous book sites turn up exactly 3. All published before 2002, and all with Zebest as just one of 6 authors.

Where are the other 97 books?

Could it be that WND is slightly exaggerating the qualifications of their "expert"

She says she was a "technical editor" for the others.

I thought that as well, then I thought maybe it was because I on was on amazon.co.uk. I switched over to amazon.com and got the same three books (I didn't really expect there to be a difference but wanted to check all the same).

After that, I Googled Zebest by her full name, Mara Zebest Nathanson, and found a May 16 reference to her on this forum where a poster going by the name Apuzzo (Mario?!) referred to her as the "top computer graphic expert in the nation" and said that she had written "no less than 17" books. As with most things birther-related, that number just keeps creeping up and up and up. Next thing you know, it will be a couple hundred books.

Yes, it's officially pegged to the amount Obama has spent hiding his records.

I think to the birthers, it was an indicia that
he's yet another skeery black man in their WHITE House.

I think what I find most amusing about this whole suit is that here's Esquire, who - I presume - in their defence will bring up the standard satire defence that a reasonable person should have recognized it as satire, and on the other side is Farah say "Oh yeah? Well not OUR readers!!" - which says an awful lot about how he views WNDs audience. (I'm not saying that he's wrong about that, either, but you generally don't see a businessman so eager to argue that the people who might be interested in his product is too stupid to figure out when someone is making fun of it.)

I don't think "our audience is a bunch of morons" is a cause of action, even though his audience really is a bunch of morons. I don't think the morons who read WeirdNutDaily are also reading Esquire, though. They might be reading Weekly World News or its equivalent, or huffing gold spray paint, though. So perhaps these imbeciles would have a cause of action if the Esquire story had been printed on the label of a can of gold spray paint.

I just came across a piece atUHF http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/2 ... 87238.html HuffPo quoting a post Farah made on June 4, in which he pretty much hands Esquire "Exhibit One" in their defence against his suit. Here's how Farah's post begins (emphasis added):

Joseph Farah wrote:
A QUESTION OF ELIGIBILITY
Birth certificate book continues high flight on New York Times list
Posted: June 04, 2011

© 2011 WND

For a book that critics say had its premise destroyed by a presidential action, "Where's the Birth Certificate? The Case That Barack Obama Is Not Eligible To Be President" by Jerome Corsi, Ph.D., is doing pretty well.

Today it was ranked at No. 14 on the New York Times best-sellers list for nonfiction hardcover books.

It debuted a week ago at No. 6.

Ever since April 27, when Obama released an image of a "Certificate of Live Birth" from the state of Hawaii, critics have condemned the book as out of date and Esquire even published a fabricated story that reported it had been withdrawn.

That wasn't true, and apparently the critics' prognostications that it was doomed weren't either.

In fact, the decision by Obama to dispatch an attorney to Hawaii to pick up a copy of the birth documentation was made just as Corsi's investigative work was reaching the No. 1 spot on Amazon.com and even may have been prompted by the meteoric rise of the book.
