I recently came across Arpaio's affidavit here and let me just say, it was a whole lotta nothing!

If there's one thing I can't stand about birthers.... forget about the lies or misinformation, it's their cowardness. Arpaio used words like "my belief" or "likely", in his investigation he used words like "probable". Birthers like Corsi continue to insist that they weren't accusing officials of anything, even though they evidently implied so on numerous occasions. If somebody is accusing an official or another individual of fraud or of some cover up, with no evidence, sure such a person should be held accountable for making such accusations? At what point do these people take accountability over their accusations??

I think the old saying: "Shit, or get off the pot!" applies to these cowards.

The line that stood out to me the most in the Posse affidavits was this sentence, in Zullo's:

"...first, in fraudulently creating a forgery that the White House characterized, knowingly or unknowingly, as an officially produced government record."

Because that makes no sense. Even on its face. Obama and the White House presented a forged birth certificate that they didn't KNOW was forged? Then who the heck made it and put it in the White House's hands? What's then to be made of the correspondence between the White House and Hawaii (which appears on the websites of each)? Is it forged too?

What bizarre conspiracy has to be posited for someone to have forged Obama's birth certificate for his benefit, but without him knowing, and then get it to him in such a manner that he would think it was real? If Obama privately knew that he was born in Kenya, then he'd obviously know the document's a fake. "Unknowingly" is utterly absurd, unless you start pleading the existence of some overarching, Illuminati-style conspiracy that's pulling everyone's strings.

At the same time, as stupid as the line is, I absolutely understand why it's there in the affidavit. Arpaio has been consistent in his stock speech on Birtherism to insist that he's not accusing the President of a crime. Now that's stupid, because he's clearly accusing the President of holding a press conference where he presented a forged document as his authentic birth certificate. So the solution to this dilemma is to say, in Zullo's affidavit, that the White House did this presentation "unknowingly." It's stupid, yes, and near-incomprehensible given the situation, but it's consistent with their efforts to avoid committing slander per se.

Arpaio did call the CCP efforts a "law enforcement investigation into Barack Obama's ... eligibility to be president ..." (¶9)

I think that's fairly significant, if the right parties wanted to make a big deal of it. I kinda doubt he has any statutory authority to do any such investigation, but that's just me speculating.

It sounds to me like simulation of a legal process, usually considered a felony. Considering that Arpaio has committed more felonies than I have had hot meals, apparently with complete impunity, I anticipate absolutely nothing happening.
