We leash walk our two inside guys in the back yard every morning and they love it. They hunt lizards out there so we do have to rescue the occasional one they manage to get their mouths on - so far no casualties other than a few cat scratches for us!

Otherwise they show no interest in going outside, but they sure love looking out of our living room sliders at the birds...who congregate in our yard since it's bird-safe territory..."Cat TV" at its finest!

I had so many plans for today, my only free day this week. All those plans were for naught...I ended up adopting a cat.

Some of you know I'm a shelter volunteer, and while of course I love all the cats, some really speak to me. Inky was one of those - labeled a shy, timid cat, after spending time working with her, bribing her with treats, and giving her head rubs, she became a lap cat. I loved her, and even got Mr. K out to the shelter to meet her, but he wouldn't say yes or no on adopting her. One day I was volunteering and watched in sadness as she was adopted right out from under my nose. She really turned on the charm for the young couple, and they seemed to fall in love with her. I cried a bit after she left, but I consoled myself by saying that my and the other volunteers' work with her got her to the point of liking people and being able to get adopted. That was back in November.

This morning I decided to check Petfinder to see if a certain cat who had not been at the shelter the day before had been transferred to our sister shelter or was still listed as available - she had a kitty cold so she could have been back in medical. I was shocked to see Inky's face pop up as an available cat! What the heck? After checking with Mr. K, I emailed my contact at the shelter, who confirmed that she had been returned and I should come get her asap.

She is now hanging in my back bedroom, a little stressed out, but calming down. She's used the litter box and nibbled at her food. She's allowed both of us to pet her, and she's discovered the window. The other cats are very curious as to why they're suddenly locked out of a room, and who is making noise in there. I'm not going to go into specifics as to why she was returned, but it just wasn't the right home for her. I'm pretty sure ours is that right home. No pictures yet, but she's a beautiful black kitty with green eyes and big ears. She's about 2, so she'll keep our 9 year old littermates and our 11 year old Meezer on their toes.

IANALBIPOOTV - I am not a lawyer, but I've played one on TV. In fact, IANA (fill in the blank) but chances are I've played on on TV.

The enclosure is unsafe for visitors. Even cute tigers are dangerous.

This kitten was teeny tiny when she got her leg stuck in a fence. Her new mom was SO worried, but it turned out she already knew how to run around on 3 legs just fine!

Feral cat colony saved!

http://wgntv.com/2018/03/01/community-r ... sses-away/
Community rallies to support cat colony after homeless neighbor passes away

It's a story that begins with a homeless man by the name of Antonio Garcia. It was almost 10 years ago that Antonio came across a small kitten he named Lorena. Within a few years, Antonio was caring not just for Lorena, but also for dozens of other wild cats that began to call his alley home. Residents came to know Antonio and his brood of cats over the years, which ultimately grew to a colony of over 30 felines.

"Whenever I asked him if he wanted anything - a tent, clothes, anything - he would say, 'no, just food for my cats,'" neighbor Leona Sepulveda remembers.

Living on the street took a toll this January, not only for the hungry feral cats, but for Antonio as well. Late January, Antonio Garcia's frozen body was found in his makeshift tent.

His death became a rallying call for the neighborhood, who stepped in to care for his colony of cats. Neighbors who called Antonio a friend began feeding and checking in on the cats daily. One by one they were able to get all of them in for vaccinations, health checks and neutering before being returned to the alley they called home. Much of the costs were paid for by donations from neighbors who appreciated not only Antonio, but the rat-free blocks they atrribute to his wild cats.
The colony is now legally protected.

:cheer1: :cheer: I'm glad they had the cats neutered, and of course immunized.
