Camels banned from Saudi beauty contest over Botox
24 January 2018

Prizes worth millions of dollars are on offer at the festival

Twelve prized camels have been disqualified from a beauty contest in Saudi Arabia after their owners tried to tweak their good looks with Botox.

Thousands of camels are paraded at the King Abdulaziz Camel Festival to be judged on their shapely lips and humps.

But judges stepped in when they discovered some owners had cheated in a bid to win the cash prizes.

The festival, which also features camel racing and camel milk tasting, has combined prize money of $57m (£40m).

Ali Al Mazrouei, the son of a top Emirati breeder, said Botox was used for the lips, the nose and even the jaw, news website The National reported.

Instead, Mike Hughes said the launch will take place sometime [last year] on private property, albeit still in Amboy, Calif., an unincorporated community in the Mojave Desert along historic Route 66.
IFLscience: Flat-Earther's Homemade Rocket Has Got A New Launch Date:
According to an announcement on his Facebook page, Hughes says he hopes to pull off a vertical rocket launch on February 3, at a new site in Amboy, a ghost town in California. The launch will be live-streamed on Noize TV for those with a subscription and will be filmed for Mike's own full-length documentary.

If you were hoping to witness it for yourself, sorry but Mike is insisting no spectators.

"Any drone flying near the private property will be shot down – our own drones will be recording anyone filming and their license plates and the CHP will run people off along with my own security," he said, in another Facebook post, which also came with the warning: "Also, some of the crazy comments [on Facebook] will be featured in my documentary."

Hughes’ previous attempt was stopped by the US Bureau of Land Management who said he didn’t have the appropriate permission to launch himself in a rocket. The original plan was to launch himself in the steam-powered rocket at speeds of up to 800 kilometers per hour (500 miles per hour). Pretty impressively, Hughes said he build the rocket himself for just $20,000. By the looks of his latest social media posts, he has crafted a new rocket for this launch, the specifications of which are not clear.

Developer must pay $6.7M for destroying iconic graffiti art

A developer has been tagged with a $6.7 million judgment for whitewashing the “formidable” work of 21 graffiti artists on the iconic 5 Pointz warehouse in Queens.

Brooklyn federal-court Judge Frederic Block on Monday angrily ordered developer Gerald Wolkoff — who erased about 45 works overnight in the middle of both sides’ court case in 2013 — to cough up the millions.

“The shame of it all is that since 5 Pointz was a prominent tourist attraction, the public would undoubtedly have thronged to say its goodbyes during those 10 months and gaze at the formidable works of aerosol art for the last time,” Block wrote in his decision. “It would have been a wonderful tribute for the artists that they richly deserved.”

The jurist noted that Wolkoff’s rash decision to ignore the legal proceeding and take matters into his own hands had sealed his fate and prompted the whopping judgment.

The artists sued him under a 1990 law, the Visual Rights Act, which protects works that are considered notable.

“If not for Wolkoff’s insolence, these damages would not have been assessed,” Block said. “If he did not destroy 5 Pointz until he received his permits and demolished it 10 months later, the Court would not have found that he had acted willfully.”
....
5 Pointz was torn down in 2014, and the land that once housed the famed painted warehouse is now home to two luxury high-rise residential towers.

Graffiti haven facing the wrecking ball

The Banksy-backed Queens graffiti haven 5 Pointz is coming down.

A Brooklyn federal judge refused to block the demolition of the Long Island City institution Tuesday despite his sympathy for the artists who’ve used it as a massive urban canvas since the 1990s.

Judge Frederic Block ruled that the owners of the property had the right to tear it down and that he could not issue a permanent injunction to prevent it from being leveled.

Famed street artist Banksy threw his influence behind the fight to save the structure and was mentioned several times in court by 5 Pointz supporters as an example of urban art’s importance.

Banksy wrote “Save 5Pointz” on his Web site just before completing his New York residency last month.

Supporters of the tourist attraction had cited a federal law that protects the destruction of art in the public interest.

Block signaled his sympathy for the artists last week – but said the property owners had the right to level it to make way for condos.

The Queens graffiti landmark 5Pointz is slated for demolition.

Apple’s New Spaceship Campus Has One Flaw – and It Hurts
Some distracted staff are walking into glass panes designed to foster collaboration

The centerpiece of Apple Inc.’s new headquarters is a massive, ring-shaped office overflowing with panes of glass, a testament to the company’s famed design-obsessed aesthetic.

There’s been one hiccup since it opened last year: Apple employees keep smacking into the glass.

Surrounding the building, located in Cupertino, California, are 45-foot tall curved panels of safety glass. Inside are work spaces, dubbed “pods,” also made with a lot of glass. Apple staff are often glued to the iPhones they helped popularize. That’s resulted in repeated cases of distracted employees walking into the panes, according to people familiar with the incidents.

At least one person (this is about ten years ago) died when they walked into a glass sliding door, which shattered and cut through the carotid. Probably the Apple glass is stronger and made to withstand any such impact, but distracted people do walk into glass doors. I've done it myself.

Crazy lady files crackpot lawsuit; news at 11

http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/opi ... story.html
Two people are suing the state — Ackley and Canadian documentary
filmmaker Todd Standing. In an interview with the Press-Enterprise,
Ackley described an encounter with the creature in March last year.

“I ran into a Sasquatch – a Bigfoot. We were face to face. He was 30
feet up in the tree,” Ackley told the paper, describing the creature
as having a barrel chest, a head three times the size of a human and
weighing about 800 pounds. Standing says that they have enough proof
to win the case.

“There’s a date set so we’re going in with PhDs, with wilderness
experts beyond myself, with wildlife biologists, with fingerprint
experts. We’re going to prove so beyond a reasonable doubt that this
species exists,” Standing told Global News.

Ackley is suing the California Department of Fish and Wildlife as well
as the state’s National Resources Agency, according to court records.
She claims that, in spite of “overwhelming facts,” the agencies have
failed in their duty by not acknowledging the existence of the
creatures, according to the suit.

She also claims that by not acknowledging Bigfoot’s existence, the
state is endangering the public, the paper reported.

"They're on our property. They knock on our walls. They look through
our windows," Ackley said. "It's more and more and more."

Fingerprint experts? Why?

DNA samples. Nothing else, short of capturing an actual bigfoot, would prove that the creatures exist.

Simple. All she has to do is find some bigfoot feces. Large 800 pound mammals must leave lots of feces lying around. If there are no feces to be found then the creatures don't exist.

A 400 lb gorilla eats about 60 pounds of vegetation a day. If vegetarian, a bigfoot would eat over 100 lbs of food a day. Evidence of their feeding would be easy to find.

A breeding size population of such large mammals would not be able to avoid scientific detection.

She saw one in a tree? So go back to that tree and find a few hairs that came off of the creature.

Testimony by "Phds" and "experts" is not proof.
