Since last I checked the evacuation area has grown substantially.

Re: Fire!
Thanks V for all the updates, they are appreciated. This is some scary looking stuff. A coworker's son is in college just south of one of the fires, he's saying the air quality is nasty.

Re: Fire!
The Thomas Fire makes the top 20. Currently tied for 18th place. This is not a good thing.

It is not that bad. There were 500 horses there but they were released. Reports I have seen say 25 died.Kendra wrote: ↑Fri Dec 08, 2017 10:36 amThanks V for all the updates, they are appreciated. Horses worth hundreds of thousands of dollars who are usually carefully walked from place to place were simply set free and encouraged to run away as flames engulfed the center near Bonsall, which is just a few miles from where the fire broke out.
Mac McBride, who was working with the center's trainers, said it was, "total pandemonium when several hundred horses were cut loose," but he believes most of the about 450 horses stabled there survived. McBride, who works at the Del Mar racetrack, said some horses were evacuated to the nearby track where many of them compete.

Carpinteria was threatened from the SE yesterday. May be threatened from the NE later today.

The Thomas Fire is also moving to the east and will soon threaten Fillmore.

The Santa Ana winds are now interacting with an off shore wind and creating an anticlockwise circulation north of Santa Barbara. This was predicted.

Re: Fire!

Same thing happening near the Lilac Fire. This could cause unpredictable winds.

Another San Diego County fire, this one seems to be nearly under control.

Re: Fire!
My brother is at home in Fallbrook keeping an eye on the Lilac Fire. He can see flames from his house, but is just north west of the evacuation zone.

Re: Fire!
There is a downside to lighter winds. The smoke doesn't blow away.

Re: Fire!
I will cross post this to the Horses! thread as well, but this is what I have just seen:
and an update from a rescue in Valley Center (not in the path of the fire):All surviving horses are out of San Luis Rey Training Center. Most are at Del Mar, others are at nearby farms. Many are still unidentified and so are officially unaccounted for, and about 30 passed away at the track. Del Mar is asking for halters, bandages, clips, blankets, carrots, apples, gloves, and shavings. If you are not in the area, the local Tractor Supply should be able to deliver supplies as they did for hurricane relief. I am hearing Stateline Tack may be doing the same. Mary’s Tack and Feed is also nearby. Phone number for them is 858-755-2015. Carter's Hay and Grain is also taking supplies to the track. Their number is 760-436-4738.
Horrifically, the San Luis Rey Downs racing facility was taken by surprise by the fire and several horses died. The majority were saved in an extreme emergency situation. I found out our farrier Juan had two horses housed there, drove to it and rescued them, as well as helping rescue other horses off the property. He said it was incredibly chaotic. Scary. He made it home late last night, his family scared to death as they didn't know what happened to him or if he made it out. He brought his two horses home thankfully and is safe, his family relieved. He saved other horses.
Lots of rescuing, caring and saving yesterday and last night. Volumes of help offered everywhere. San Diego Strong. Great and wonderful people helping each other. Yay.
If you are in or near an evacuation area please get out while you can as our fires move incredibly fast and can easily overtake you, just ask those at the San Luis Rey Training Center.

Re: Fire!
Multiple reports that the Thomas Fire near Ojai is intensifying. Heavy smoke. Tall plumes.
