a little more, but not much. ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- A teenage boy fatally shot two adults and three children inside an Albuquerque home, authorities said Sunday.Investigators also were seeking to determine who owned several guns that were found at the home, one of which was a semi-automatic military-style rifle.Authorities weren't releasing the name or age of the teenager accused in the attack. He was booked on two counts of murder and three counts of child abuse resulting in death.[/break1]miamiherald.com/2013/01/20/3191796/officials-nm-teen-gunman-kills.html]http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/01/20/3 ... kills.html

Today, in New Mexico, the gun nutters are having their big protest at the State Capitol in Santa Fe, trying to keep assault rifles legal, while crime scene investigators are looking at a long day and probably night in the South Valley of Albuquerque. My brother's family in Albuquerque, which includes his wife, one 21-year-old, one 19, one 14 and one 4 months, are a little shaken up, as it's hit a little close to home.Fuck.
Edit: My oldest nephew just told me that when he was in middle school, about three blocks from their house, a kid showed up with a gun and a "kill list." They had a lockdown, and he saw the kid being led down the hall in handcuffs. Talk about close to home.

Ahhh, another "Gangster Gun" (see NFA 1934).....

[/break1]wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Firearms_Act]Gun Control Act of 1934

The purpose of the NFA[1] was to regulate what were considered "gangster weapons" such as machine guns and short barreled shotguns.[2] Originally, pistols and revolvers were to be regulated as strictly as machine guns; towards that end, cutting down a rifle or shotgun to circumvent the handgun restrictions by making a concealable weapon was taxed as strictly as a machine gun.

Conventional pistols and revolvers were ultimately excluded from the Act before passage, but other concealable firearms were not: the language as originally enacted defined an NFA "firearm" as:

A shotgun or rifle having a barrel of less than eighteen inches in length or any other weapon, other than a pistol or revolver, from which a shot is discharged by an explosive if such weapon is capable of being concealed on the person, or a machinegun, and includes a muffler or silencer for any firearm whether or not such a firearm is included in the foregoing definition.[3][4]

Under the original Act, NFA "firearms" were machine guns, short-barreled rifles (SBR), short-barreled shotguns (SBS), any other weapons (AOW or concealable weaponsI knowwwwww.....I'm preaching to the choir, and since I have the Pulpit......

How many children have been killed by guns since Sandy Hook?Slate (frequently updated) [link]How Many People Have Been Killed by Guns Since Newtown?,http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_ ... oting.html[/link]

You can count the little guys in the figure. The people in green were killed in the Newtown massacre. Every person is named if you click on the human figure, along with place, date, and age. The map shows the death. Or you can use the filter at the top of the page. The filter for "child" returns 15 deaths after Newtown. The filter for "teen" returns 58 deaths.

Thanks, Tollie. We are an exceptional nation, aren't we?Of the 1,045 (and rising) deaths due to guns since the Newtown massacre, 15 occurred on Dec. 14, the day of the massacre. That was way below the daily average of 28. Deaths for 1/19 and 1/20 are not yet posted, so we know at least 5 more deaths will be included, including three children.

I happened across this story when I googled to see if there were any updates in the NM shooting story. This is a completely different event. The crime that nearly became a murder happened three days later and started as a home-invasion robbery last weekend. It's all spelled out in a criminal complaint and begins when the victim answered a knock on his door. When he answered it two men--one with a gun-- rushed in taking credit cards and demanding the PIN to his debit card and the keys to his car.All the while the man was hog-tied with a pillow case over his head and gagged with a blanket. Then he was put in a bathtub, the drain plugged and the water left running."He and his accomplices could have just taken the money, taken the items they wished to steal and fled, but they took it that extra step," Martinez said.more here:[/break1]kasa.com/dpps/news/crime/apd-teens-crimes-included-near-murder_5371199]http://www.kasa.com/dpps/news/crime/apd ... er_5371199I googled this kid and saw he has at least two other arrests in the past year. I see a kid who has probably been in trouble for quite awhile. The first sentence in that article says he "was on a fast track to becoming a murderer".And he had to get pretty close to just that before he was stopped. But now he'll probably spend some years in prison. And I doubt he'll be any different when he gets out.

What leads a 15 year old child to murder his entire family? There has to be a lot more to this story. Tragic. :(

New Mexico homeschooled teen Nehemiah Griego accused of murdering family, planned to keep killing at local Walmart

Griego told a friend he was going to keep killing, but his friend, mercifully, talked him out of it. He eventually told a church security guard about the crime, and the retired cop called 911, according to reports.

Nehemiah Griego, 15, had loaded up his family van with "several" guns that he intended to use to slaughter customers at the nearby shopping center, the Albuquerque Journal reported Monday.

Griego hoped to die in a shootout with cops, sources told the paper.

But he was talked out of the plan by a friend, who convinced him over the phone to meet him at his father’s church, the paper said.He waited for her to fall asleep, and then is believed to have helped himself to his parents’ guns, including an AR-15 assault rifle and a .22 caliber pistol.there's more here:
