Maybe they should invite Penzone to inspect the "warehouse full of evidence" they've collected, and get him on board.

:rotflmao: Yeah that will work!

... and how does that make you feel?
What is it you are trying to say?

The have a tip line on the new front page. I am tempted to report that someone named Dennis Montgomery defrauded the MCSO of thousands of dollars assisted by a Mike Zullo.

Maricopa County Sheriff Paul Penzone drops defamation suit against Joe Arpaio
PHOENIX — Newly installed Maricopa County Sheriff Paul Penzone has dropped a defamation lawsuit against the man he beat for the job less than four months after filing.

Penzone’s lawyers set aside the suit against former Sheriff Joe Arpaio late last week.

Penzone, who defeated Arpaio in November’s general election, sued over a campaign TV commercial that said the new sheriff had physically abused his ex-wife over 10 years ago during an argument.

The suit was filed in late September.

Had he lost, Arpaio would have been on the hook for the damages.

Penzone accused Arpaio of running the ad despite knowing the 13-year-old accusations weren’t true.

Arpaio, who was trying for a seventh straight term as sheriff, said the allegation was fair game.

WJC WCJ WJ: Documentary Film To Challenge More Lawmen To Be Like Sheriff Joe Arpaio:
"How many lives do you think I might have saved in 24 years?"

A goal of a new documentary film in the making is to inspire the nation’s approximately 3,000 sheriffs to be more like “America’s toughest sheriff,” Joe Arpaio.

The film is being directed Craig Bergman, who also produced and starred in Unfair: Exposing the IRS, as well as helped market the highly successful Dinesh D’Souza film 2016: Obama’s America.

In Sheriff Joe: America’s Toughest Sheriff, his latest project through Appellate Films, Bergman is focusing on the life and work of Arpaio, who served as sheriff of Maricopa County, Ariz., for 23 years. The county encompasses Phoenix and its surrounding communities, with a population of more than 4 million people, making it one of the most populous in the country.

Changes are coming to Phoenix...

Maricopa County Sheriff's Office: No more 'courtesy holds' for federal immigration agents
Maricopa County jails will no longer detain people flagged by federal authorities as a courtesy for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Sheriff Paul Penzone said Friday evening.

Penzone told reporters that earlier Friday his office had been advised by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office that he faced a “threat of litigation'' because of the procedure, which forced the Sheriff's Office to change its policy.

Individuals no longer will be detained beyond the time that they otherwise should be released for an offense.

“There’s no further authority to detain an individual ...” Penzone said. “We are following our legal obligation, to process that individual for release.”

Why dangerous? As I understand a really dangerous subject would be kept in jail as per judges order, and I cannot see how most of the illegals would be able to bail themselves out, especially those that have no local residency. I can see a problem for those illegals that have done their time in jail and are set free cause ICE does not pick them up in time.

ICE is being deceptive and lazy. They have a person at the MCSO who knows about every arrest. That isn't changing. If an undocumented person should be detained for reasons other than why they were picked up by local authorities ICE should go through due process to get an arrest warrant. ICE wants the counties to do their dirty work for them and act unconstitutionally.

Ariz. Rep.: 'I'm not retired': Joe Arpaio launches conservative non-profit:
Former MCSO sheriff Joe Arpaio has launched a conservative issue-advocacy group to support causes that are close to his heart.

* * *

In an email to his supporters, Arpaio announced the new “Sheriff Joe Arpaio Action Fund,” an issue-advocacy non-profit[*] organization that promotes conservative values.

The organization, he said in the email, is meant to counter the likes of liberal billionaire George Soros, who donated millions to Democratic candidates in 2016. One notable candidate was Paul Penzone, the challenger who ousted Arpaio in the November election after nearly a quarter-century in the office.

“Obviously, I am not a billionaire who can write a personal check to buy elections across this country (like Soros!),” the email read. “But what I can do is reach out to loyal supporters like you and ask for your help. Together we can build an organization that promotes a conservative agenda, helps conservative ideas become law and help those conservatives win office.”
I guess givearpaioyourmoney.com was already taken.

The Joe Arpaio Action Fund.

Montini: Arpaio solicits suckers for money
Dethroned former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio no longer wants your vote.

But he still wants your money.

The attention-seeking lawman is now a treasure-seeking private citizen, hoping there are enough suckers out there to fill the vault at the newly-formed “Joe Arpaio Action Fund,” a dark money nonprofit organization of his very own.

Groups like this are the what the Internal Revenue Service refers to as 501(c)(4) operations. They’re technically supposed to be “social welfare” organizations but they’ve morphed into political big spenders that can accept unlimited corporate and individual contribution and not disclose the donors.

Outdoor Jail, a Vestige of Joe Arpaio’s Tenure, Is Closing
By FERNANDA SANTOS APRIL 4, 2017

PHOENIX — Tent City, the outdoor jail that stood as the last remaining symbol of Joe Arpaio’s long, turbulent tenure as sheriff of Maricopa County, will close in the coming weeks, Mr. Arpaio’s successor, Sheriff Paul Penzone, said on Tuesday.

“Starting today, the circus ends, and the tents come down,” Sheriff Penzone said.

The jail, where inmates wore striped jumpsuits and pink underwear and slept in 70 surplus Korean War tents, became an effective and telegenic publicity tool for Mr. Arpaio. His unforgiving tough-on-crime stance and his pursuit of illegal immigrants propelled him to re-election five times, but also thrust him into lawsuits and controversy.

The facility opened in 1993 under the pretense that it would save money while turning the desert’s broiling summer into an element of punishment. In the end, it did neither, Sheriff Penzone said. Tent City never held more than 1,700 prisoners, and in recent years, it housed no more than 800. But the cost of operating the jail did not change significantly as its population declined; the same number of guards were needed to patrol its seven-acre campus.

This is another good move by Penzone. I was worried that he might not follow through on this one.

Lemons has a few choice words about Arpaio and his tent city.

Nothing "new"; just a well-deserved (and nicely written) smackdown.

Ariz. Politics: BREAKING: Arpaio Finds A Tax Exempt Nonprofit For Supporters To Fund Legal Defense, Starts With $250K:
Former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has come up with a way to permit his thousands of supporters across the nation to fund his legal defense with tax deductible money. His non-exempt Legal Defense Fund has now received $250,000 from the new tax EXEMPT organization the National Center for Police Defense.

* * *

Arpaio's Legal Defense Fund is an opaque entity operated by Summit Group Consulting, the same consulting firm that has run Arpaio's campaigns and made him into an unparalleled fundraising machine. There is no evidence that the fund is incorporated in Arizona (or, elsewhere). No public disclosure of the funds received or expended is required under law.

It is very likely that any monies raised by the fund and disbursed to attorneys on Arpaio's behalf are taxable income for the Sheriff. On his personal financial disclosure statement (filed while he was in office), Arpaio did not divulge receiving any income from this fund, nor did he list any gifts, reportable interests, or personal debts.

FOX: Ex-Sheriff Joe Arpaio Says 'Tent City' Needed at the Border After Sessions Memo:
Former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said Friday that Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ tough memo ordering federal prosecutors to “charge and pursue the most serious, readily provable offense” is needed to combat crime — especially with illegally immigrants. And the move, he says, may lead to a “tent city” near the border.

* * *

Arpaio, who infamously created an outdoor jail called Tent City in Arizona in 1993 as a symbol of his “tough on crime” stance, says even though the prison is being shut down by the new sheriff this year, the concept worked.

“It saved a lot of money and I think we should set up tents at the border now too. We need to look at different ways to make prison space now because we shouldn’t worry about that when cracking down on criminals,” he says.

Masslive: Former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio touts gun rights, talks Obama birth certificate probe in Belchertown:
Arpaio, who fielded questions from attendees, further touched on his investigation into former President Barack Obama's birth certificate, stressing that the reason he pursued the issue was to push Congress to examine the document and pass legislation requiring presidential candidates to be vetted.

"You ought to be pushing this, that anybody running for president -- and don't let the media do it -- vet that person and make sure that he was born (here,)" he said.
