Presumably, Stanley Ann Dunham Obama was the source of the information on President Obama's birth certificate. Given that the senior Obama had been taught (in Kenya) to identify himself as "African" (not Negro; not Black; not Colored), it seems likely to me that "African" is how he identified his race when he and Stanley Ann applied (jointly) for their marriage license, and I'd think that it likely made an impression on Stanley Ann which was not forgotten a relatively short time later, when she gave birth to Barack II, and was called upon to fill out the basic information (parents' names, address, age, race, etc.) for his birth certificate (the attending physician or nurse, of course, is the one who completes the data boxes calling for date, time, birth weight, etc.).

**See, I know that's how it works **now** (or at least relatively recently) because, with out first child, my wife (who was the one providing the information for the form) identified her race as "Caucasian," and my race as "Native American." And with our second and third children (same wife, same me), she identified both of us as "Caucasian." So, three kids with the same parents, and one has a Native American daddy, while two others have a Caucasian daddy. And yes, there's a story there, but it's pretty boring...
