Lakin was a prisoner. Regardless of their former jobs, they are there to be punished not accommodated.

Yes, but it's a gray area as to whether a crime that's considered a felony by the US military is also considered a felony by the State of Colorado.

That section reads (to me) that it doesn't matter if Colorado considers it a felony if it's one under the jurisdiction of where he was convicted.

I think that missing movement as a physician should be considered that he deliberately put his patients at risk.

The following is a direct quote from someone who doesn't follow the birthers much, but who is very familiar with the Lakin Affair and with military medicine, upon being informed of what the Colorado material says:

"Well, he must have had a lawyer look at it and tell....................*facepalm*.......God, I hope he had a lawyer look at it."

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I've been poking around this morning in the records of disciplinary action by the Colorado Medical Board.

There was a physician who removed the wrong bone during an orthopedic surgery, found out about his mistake, and didn't tell the patient of his error for 5 days afterwards. He was given a sternly worded letter. :roll:

There was a physician who was given probation for performing surgery on patients when there was no medical justification for their surgeries. Probation. :-?

The offense that I saw physicians being discplined for was prescriptive authority abuse. There was a physician who had his license stripped for writing prescriptions to someone he was romantically involved with for Scheduled Naroctics without filling out any of the proper documentation.

Honestly, even if Lakin is in the wrong here, I don't really see the Medical Board taking any real disciplinary action against him.

I think the most they might do is ask Lakin to correct the information on his professional profile. Even that is a long shot.

I'm not so sure. Remember the rule: the coverup is worse than the crime. Medical board officials may be pissed off at the lack of candor. That's what often sinks lawyers and politicians.

I disagree. There was a record of a physician's assistant who answered on his licensing paperwork that he did not have a mental health condition, when in fact he did. The Medical Board found out about this somehow. The PA was given probation, but meh.

We had a surgeon who amputated the wrong leg of a young (30ish) woman. Not only that, but it was an above the knee amputation, where it should have been below (on the correct leg, of course). She then had to go back and have the other leg amputated. He was also performed a hip replacement on the wrong side. He continues to practice to this day; the hospital's response was to shift the burden onto the nursing staff, requiring them to mark the correct side to be operated on. TPTB also refused to fire a general surgeon who had a bad habit of slicing through ureters during abdominal surgeries; instead they tasked a urologist to go in ahead of time and "flag" the areas he should avoid.

Ah, but the mental health condition might have been a mitigating factor in the discipline decision.

Seems to me that the one sure fire way to make sure the Colorado medical board takes no action is for nobody to report Lakin's guilty pleas, court martial, etc. Just sayin'.

Gotta agree with Highlands. The actions of the Colorado Medical Board seem to be mimicking the California State Bar (no assault/battery nor theft; no problem). I won't hold my breath waiting for any action preventing Lakin from practicing medicine there.

The general surgeon I referenced above (and there are many more horror stories of his incompetence), left the group here to practice in Colorado. So ...

A physician who didn't listen to advise of his superiors or his attorneys. Instead he listened to the birfers.

He lost his job, but not his license.

So, both he and his wife are physicians, but don't work.

He's not going to lose his home. He's going to sell his home. Whether or not he makes a profit, breaks even, or loses some depends on when he purchased it. Like everybody else.
