George Washington attended the Episcopalian Church as a young man however he never took part in the Sacrament of the Eucharist (possibly because of doubts about the doctrine of transsubstantiation) .

When he was challenged about this omission, Washington responding by no longer attending Church services. For approximately the last 30 years of his life (including his entire Presidency) Washington prayed in private and attended private celebrations of the Episcopalian Sacraments.

Can you show the source he "prayed in private ".

Fist google result for "George Washington episcopalian"

Quote:
Washington and the family he was raised in were originally Anglicans. The Episcopal Church was not officially founded as a separate province within Anglicanism until 1789, after the American colonies proclaimed independence from Great Britain. Prior to the American Revolutionary War, the Episcopal Church was part of the Church of England, so Washington was originally a member of the Church of England.

While he was President, Washington attended Christ Church (an Anglican/Episcopalian congregation) in Philadelphia.
...
Although he was an Anglican and an Episcopalian, Washington reportedly did not take communion and was not considered an official "communicant" (full-fledged adult church member). "

http://www.adherents.com/people/pw/Geor ... ngton.html

From an atheist website:
Quote:
The Rev. Dr. Wilson, in his famous sermon on the Religion of the Presidents, also alludes to this subject. He says:

"When the Congress sat in Philadelphia, President Washington attended the Episcopal church. The rector, Dr. Abercrombie, told me that on the days when the sacrament of the Lord's Supper was to be administered, Washington's custom was to rise just before the ceremony commenced, and walk out of church. This became a subject of remark in the congregation, as setting a bad example. At length the Doctor undertook to speak of it, with a direct allusion to the President. Washington was heard afterwards to remark that this was the first time a clergyman had thus preached to him, and he should henceforth neither trouble the Doctor nor his congregation on such occasions; and ever after that, upon communion days, he 'absented himself altogether from the church.'

The Rev. Bird Wilson, D.D., author of the "Memoir of Bishop White," says:

"Though the General attended the churches in which Dr. White officiated, whenever he was in Philadelphia during the Revolutionary war, and afterwards while President of the United States, he never was a communicant in them" (Memoir of Bishop White, p. 188).

The Rev. Beverly Tucker, D.D., of the Episcopal church, has attempted to prove that Washington was a churchman. But while professing to believe that he was a communicant before the Revolution he is compelled to admit that there is a doubt about his communing after the Revolution. He says:

"The doubt has been raised partly on the strength of a letter written by Bishop White in 1832. He says that Washington attended St. Peter's church one winter, during the session of the Continental Congress, and that during his Presidency he had a pew in Christ church, 'which was habitually occupied by himself, by Mrs. Washington, who was regularly a communicant, and by his secretaries. This language is taken to mean, and probably correctly, that Washington did not commune."

http://www.infidels.org/library/histori ... ter_3.html

So if anything I overstated the case - Washington attended Church on a regular basis, with the exception of those days when he knew the Communion would be celebrated.

Nelly Custis-Lewis was the daughter of Washington's adopted son. She wrote:

My mother [Eleanor Calvert-Lewis] resided two years at Mount Vernon after her marriage [in 1774] with John Parke Custis, the only son of Mrs. Washington. I have heard her say that General Washington always received the sacrament with my grandmother before the revolution. When my aunt, Miss Custis [Martha's daughter] died suddenly at Mount Vernon, before they could realize the event [before they understood she was dead], he [General Washington] knelt by her and prayed most fervently, most affectingly, for her recovery. Of this I was assured by Judge [Bushrod] Washington's mother and other witnesses.

Yet she makes this statement.

odd being his writings not once mention Jesus or Christ in his diaries or letter's to others. Words he did use Divine, Creator, Providence.. words deist would use.

We must endeavor to deserve better of Providence, and, I am persuaded, she will smile on us.

When do Christian's refer god as "she", GW sounds like a warm deist.

At this point in time, I think it's effectively impossible to know whether or not Washington was a Christian or a Deist - and there was plenty of overlap between the two.

There were Founders who were clearly Deists - Jefferson, Franklin - there were others who were clearly Christian - Henry, Pinkney.

What we can know though is that Washington certainyl didn;t live up to the standard of public Christian observance demanded by Hale et al.

Did anyone listen to Ed's historial announcement tonight on plains radio?
Ed says Phil Berg is working with Obama, and Ed is taking down Berg and Obama, Berg has played into Ed's hands by this lawsuit that Berg has filed, ed say Obama will be taken from the white house in handcuffs and 100% sure Berg will go to jail, we will get our country back and I am proud to be the leader, Berg did not know the evidence that I am holding ( since last Oct) and will not realize it till they lock him up along with Obama.

I was wondering how long it was going to take someone on that side to claim Berg was an Obot......

Expect Orly to make that claim soon as well.

There was a 1917 pamphlet called "George Washington the Christian" that has some fake quotations from Washington make him sound Christian. I remember bumping into that some years ago. The following page makes the argument that Washington was a Christian. I'm not vouching for the accuracy of what's on the page.

Old Ed says he will file law suit against Berg and thinks he can take down Obama this way,
as Walter Fitzpatrick is telling Ed and has nuts that his criminal complaints will have to be settled before any of the civil suits can proceed, and discovery is ours because we now have standing  so judge will have to give us a supeona to get Obama's vault bc from Hawaii and whatever we want so end of game.
he was going on and on about his case will take Obama and Berg down with the information he has, and Obama will be taken from the white house in handcuffs etc,
but now he find out that Fitzpatrick is talking to the other said also ( Berg) so he's upset that the Evidence ( as he puts it ) may have been given to the other said,
so that what this is all about. :D

Ok, I've been trying to listen to this, on and off. (and I put info in wrong topic, so i'm moving.)

Anway, I'm just at a point where they say "Charlie from Alabama" on the Chalice show was really Phil (detrich I think.) at about the 42:45 minute mark.

Send donations, cuz this one is FOR REAL. They can REALLY take 'em all down this time. THIS IS IT.

Other stuff I heard, so far:

So.... Ed's evidence proves Phil Berg is in the employ of Obama. And, he new big plan is that he's going to file a criminal complaint in response to Phil Berg's suit. And, a federal judge will have to force Obama to produce the Birth Certificate. I really can't follow. And, i'm only 15 minutes into this thing.

He says a criminal complaint takes precedence over a civil complaint. So, the judge HAS TO ADDRESS THIS. And, Ed has the right to Discovery.

Where's my talking squirrel graphic?

"We got 'em. We got Obama. We got Berg." ???

Ed is sending out an Appeal to any Attorney who happens to be listening, and wants to be a part of history. Any takers here???? They are going to call Orly and tell her to sit back.

Ed has sent his big evidence to about 40 people, in case someone kills him.

They are taking everyone down. Obama, Berg, Congress. Though, there was some discussion as to whether to throw all of congress out, since there are a few Patriots who vote straight conservative.

"It's true." They keep assuring people that it's real. "We got 'em". I don't know what they're smokin', but it's some strong sh*t.

Walt is gonna be on Wednesday. It's part of the big deal?

So.. that means that Berg had the evidence.. Obama knew it.... and worked a deal and that is why the case was removed from the SCOTUS schedule?
Now who the heck would rat out Berg?
This could be a scandal like Watergate if there is evidence.

Actually Ed and Phil had a falling out almost 2 months ago and Ed banned him from the chatroom apparently, Ed also cut off Phil's radio show....I think it was over some BS Phil said about Canada and the UK sending troops to the US to fight against the "revolution". Phil disappeared that night and only returned in the last week or so.

If you only have 3 minutes, the best part of the show is here:

Around 1:17:00 or thereabouts?

Somebody on that radio show says that Phil Berg has the birth certificate. Ed freaks. "Whoa, whoa, whoa, ...." Apparently that's the big deal.

Ed says they have "standing".

Criminal case has to be heard in Texas. Fitzpatrick showed 'em how to tie it all together.

Fitz filed complaint for treason. 1-1/2 phone conf with walt & tim. Send reply to judge with his evidence that Berg works with Obama. Files criminal complaint. pandora's box opens. fed judge has to hear it.

Now we have that standing.

"They gave us the opening with this suit that they filed."

The crim case that we can do now. must be heard in tx. Fitz showed how to tie it all together, but since we are now in a fed suit can piggyback it onto fitz's suit. Berg must show proof. ???

They got 'em.

Then, they go on to talk about how Berg never really wanted to get a case to go forward. He was failing on purpose.

All true but then Phil become very ill (I can not remember what he had know but it was similar to a stroke)and he was bed ridden. It appears he is feeling better. Ed and Phil had a public falling out over their disagreement about whether Orly should be pursuing miliary persons. Ed was always against it and Phil thought it was a good thing.

Yes, I know, But hes back by Ed's side again,he was part of the conference call with Fitzpatrick the other night, and is to be the one on Wed nights show with the Evidence.
Hes been back for about 3 weeks now. Ed did not banned him from chat, Phil said he had a heart attack the next day and disappeared.

Was it 3 weeks ago already, my how time flies! I was listening to the Lions Den a while ago when Phil called in saying he had a stroke and would return soon, didn't realize it was that long ago though. IMO it was all just to cover up the fact that he and Ed had a falling out. In any case all one has to do is listen to him and it soon becomes perfectly clear that he is nothing but a toothless redneck!
It's been a while since I've been in the chatroom, since he started charging $10.00 a month actually.

I appears Fitz is their new night in shining armor, however, I fail to see why his complaints are any more relevant than Hollister's or Easterlings.

An individual citizen accusing the President of treason doesn't amount to much. The legal bar for treason is so high, the Fitz will have to do much, much better than simply accusing Obama of treason

I fail to see how his former rank has any bearing on this matter at all. He might as well be a common citizen. In fact, he is.
