That's the latest headline. Now... I'm worried. I didn't know Wikipedia was on the payroll as well. So, is this gonna affect my wages?

With Barack Obama in the White House, millions of Americans are watching the news night after night in sheer shock, wondering out loud what the next unprecedented expansion of government power will be. Nationalizing entire industries with gigantic taxpayer bailouts; forcing taxpayers to fund abortion; releasing Gitmo prisoners onto U.S. streets; rapidly converting free-market, capitalist America into a government-run socialist state – every day seems to bring a new unconstitutional power-grab, critics say.

But arguably Obama’s most egregious, unconstitutional “power-grab” as president may have been his very first – being elected to the highest office in the land while steadfastly refusing to offer proof he is a “natural born citizen,” as required of all presidents by the U.S. Constitution.

That explosive story is the focus of the April 2009 edition of WND’s acclaimed Whistleblower magazine. It’s called “YOUR PAPERS, PLEASE? Why dozens of lawsuits and millions of Americans want Barack Obama to prove he's constitutionally qualified to be president.”

Although Article II section 1 of the Constitution clearly requires that all presidents be “natural born citizens,” the 2008 election proved, Farah points out, “that no controlling legal authority bothered to establish” that Obama was qualified for the Oval Office. “Everybody dropped the ball,” said Farah.

The biggest reason interest in the Obama eligibility issue continues to mount, with ever more legal actions being filed and more Americans demanding answers, says WND Managing Editor David Kupelian, is simple: "Barack Obama is hiding something. About that statement, there is no dispute. Despite dozens of lawsuits, with plaintiffs including a former presidential candidate, a former deputy attorney general, many legislators, active-duty U.S. military and other serious people, Obama simply refuses to release his original, long-form birth certificate. That's the one that could actually prove he was born in Hawaii. What is posted on Obama's 'Fight the Smears' website as well as the FactCheck.org website is the abbreviated short-form 'certification of live birth' that could have been issued for a child born overseas, and thus does not prove he was born in Hawaii. What is so difficult about this to understand?"

And while some of the many lawsuits challenging Obama on this issue have reached the eyes of U.S. Supreme Court justices, at least one former state Supreme Court chief justice – Alabama’s Roy Moore – now says the Obama eligibility issue should be adjudicated: “Why doesn't the president have to show that he's a natural born citizen? … We've had all kinds of suits filed, and the press doesn't mention them and the courts continually reject them. … It's troubling to me because we'll suffer the consequences if we ignore our Constitution."

Joseph Farah is an American author, journalist, and editor-in-chief of the conservative website WorldNetDaily (WND).[1]

Early years
Joseph Farah was born in Paterson, New Jersey on 6 July 1954 to parents of Syrian and Lebanese ancestry.[2][3] His father John was a schoolteacher.[3] He attended William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey.[3]


Career
Farah worked for six years as executive news editor at the Los Angeles Herald Examiner.[4] On July 22, 1990, Farah became editor of the Sacramento Union. The paper had been losing up to $3 million annually, and in early 1990 it was acquired by Daniel Benvenuti, Jr., and David Kassis from Richard Mellon Scaife.[5]

Farah and the paper's owners envisioned the paper as a 'conservative alternative to the Sacramento Bee.[6] "We just thought the way to go was to be unabashedly conservative in our approach," explained Farah to the Washington Post.[6] Among other things, Farah convinced Rush Limbaugh to write a daily column, which ran on page one.[4]

In 1991, Farah left the Union and co-founded the Western Journalism Center.[7]

Farah launched WorldNetDaily in 1997.[8] His wife Elizabeth is co-founder of WorldNetDaily and also serves as the marketing director for the company.[9] He received the Washington Times Foundation National Service Award in 1996.[3]

Farah has been a proponent of the Barack Obama citizenship conspiracy theories, stating, "It'll plague Obama throughout his presidency. It'll be a nagging issue and a sore on his administration, much like Monica Lewinsky was on President Bill Clinton," and "It's not going to go away and it will drive a wedge in an already divided public."[10]. Farah has demanded that President-Elect Obama release his official birth certificate.[11][12]

An Ohio State University associate professor who includes election law among his specialties says there is a logical legal strategy to convince the U.S. Supreme Court to rule on the issue of Barack Obama's eligibility to be president.

Daniel Tokaji, in an interview with WND, confirmed the thesis of a "First Impressions" column he'd written for the Michigan Law Review that a lawsuit in a state court probably would have the best chance at success in obtaining a decision.

WND has reported on dozens of legal challenges to Obama's occupancy in the Oval Office based on questions over his "natural born citizen" status. The Constitution, Article 2, Section 1, states, "No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President."

Some of the lawsuits question whether he actually was born in Hawaii, as he insists. If he was born out of the country, Obama's American mother, the suits contend, was too young at the time of his birth to confer American citizenship to her son under the law at the time.

Prof. Tokaji has litigated numerous civil rights and election law cases. He was lead counsel in a case that struck down an Ohio law requiring naturalized citizens to produce a certificate of naturalization if challenged at the polls (Boustani v. Blackwell). He was also part of the legal teams that obtained a court order keeping open the Ohio window for simultaneous registration and early voting in 2008 (Project Vote v. Brunner), and that challenged punch-card voting systems in Ohio and California (Stewart v. Blackwell and Common Cause v. Jones). Among his other cases was a lawsuit that successfully protected the First Amendment rights of protesters at the 2000 Democratic National Convention (SEIU Local 660 v. Los Angeles). He has argued before the California Supreme Court, the United States Courts of Appeals for the Sixth and Ninth Circuit, and other state and federal courts.

Prof. Tokaji serves on the boards of the ACLU of Ohio, the Lawyer’s Committee for Civil Rights, and the Conference of Asian Pacific American Law Faculty. He served on the National Governing Board of Common Cause from 1999 to 2005, and was the Chair of California Common Cause from 2000 to 2003. He was a founding board member of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Central Ohio.

Conclusion
The current federal lawsuits challenging the presidential candidates’ eligibility to serve as president are not justiciable, and it is questionable whether any justiciable case could be brought in federal court as an initial matter. Fortunately, there are alternative means to adjudicate this matter that are consistent with the U.S. Constitution. The most promising is a preelection state-court lawsuit seeking to keep an allegedly unqualified candidate off the ballot. In the event that a renegade state court rejects a candidate who is, in fact, eligible or that two or more state courts reach conflicting conclusions on a candidate’s eligibility, U.S. Supreme Court review should be available as a backstop. This avenue seems less fraught with peril than congressional resolution of the matter, given Congress’ dubious legal authority to not count electoral votes of a candidate it believes ineligible. Those who seek to challenge a presidential candidate’s eligibility would thus be well-advised to dust off their state election codes and head to state court.
