The gallows? Good Lord...speaking of which, why not just crucify them? It's really a much better public spectacle than a simple hanging. And think how many American jobs could be created--loggers, sawmills, carpenters (all for cross building); iron workers, foundries, and blacksmiths (gotta have nails and spikes); more carpenters (to drive the nails, natch), plus whatever sort of worker specializes in leg-breaking for those who do not die quickly enough, or who are apparently not suffering sufficiently); post-hole diggers (for securely planting the crosses); forestry/flora/farm workers, pickers, and weavers (for growing, harvesting, and weaving the obligatory crowns of thorns...the bougainvilla is particularly nice this time of year); concessionaires ('cause what's a good crucifixion festival without funnel cakes, corn dogs, cotton candy, lemonade, and a beer tent?); jesters (for taunting the condemned); vinegar makers (the concession for the damned), and so, so many others.
I mean, seriously, what is this crap about "the gallows?" It's so post-Civil War, so KKK. It's been overdone, and smacks of racism and 'stringin' up the uppity darkies' for daring to step on the same sidewalk as a uniboobed white woman with over-bleached blonde hair and tarantula fake eyelashes. Yeah, sure, it'd draw a crowd, but some folks might stay away because of the historically racist undertones, and it's over so fast--there's really no sustainable plan for the economy in a hanging fest; no longterm jobs, and very little infrastructure required.
It seems to me that if you're going to go with capital punishment for all these alleged traitors, and you're going to insist on an obsolete (and illegal in 48 states) means of execution, you might as well go with a plan that would give a nice economic boost and be an actual destination "event."
