Taitz is very pleased with the publicity her $500 bought; links to multiple articles now up.

She doesn't seem aware that most of the coverage is dry, at best.

When you go to a 5-bill fundraiser, raise your hand, and then spew out invective asserting that the President is not eligible to clean toilets, all you're doing is alerting the candidate and the press that you are so far over the top that it is politically dangerous for the candidate to give the slightest appearance of agreeing with you.

You might as well be carrying a sign with this in big, bold letters: I'm a toxic five-star nutjob. Dismiss what I have to say as quickly as possible, change the subject and move on.

No one is better at giving instant notice that they're nuts, thereby destroying their own credibility, than is Orly.

She's the whole package: foreign accent, fingernails-on-the-blackboard voice, tacky clothes, ridiculous makeup, cocksure mile-a-minute delivery, inscrutibility, hyperbole, stridency and pedantry, all rolled into one. Even if she were extolling the cuteness and lovability of fuzzy puppies, most people would quickly take a step back and conclude that she is not someone they'd be inclined to know as a friend or ally.

She is, in short, the perfect public face for birtherism. I say, keep up the good work, Orly. :-bd

I've been writing about this woman for three years, now, and this has to be in the top five ugly, nasty, racist things that has ever been vomited forth by Dr. Orly.

I think her loss to an empty table has caused her to amp up the hatred and bile to a new high.

And yet, Gingrich the scumbag couldn't manage to bring himself to say this was craziness or have the disruptive lunatic removed, instead blandly almost agreeing it was a worthwhile project. He knows he can't quite just come out and say birtherism is nutso, because the teabaggers are one of his few constituencies, and this kind of lunacy is big with those crazies.

Agreed. It's almost to the point that any but the most delusional of her followers would draw back at the level of disrespect it shows not just towards our duly elected president, but the country and its people as a whole. At some point, the opportunists are going to realize she is toxic as is everything coming out of her project. They will have to reach the point McCain did when he had to tell the crazy lady in the town hall meeting that 'No, he's not a Muslim.' If they don't they are taking a risk of being identified with her. O'rly is approaching a critical mass of repulsiveness.

Problem is that most of Dr. Orly's followers not only agree with her on this, but think (and sometimes say) far worse.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Obama wins a second term, Dr. Orly starts publicly calling for his execution. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if she does that BEFORE election day.

What he said was mostly reported as him dismissing the whole thing, thankfully. He could have dismissed her more artfully, that is true. But I think the gist of what he said was "bug off, Lady, there are real issues to talk about" and I don't think anyone but her craziness herself and her equally crazy hoards would interpret his comments as supporting the birfers. Pandering to them, yes, but supporting, no.

It'd be helpful to have video, or at least a full quote of Orly's question. Because the two articles I've seen that actually specified what Orly asked about didn't necessarily scream 'Birther!' to the uninitiated.

The NYTimes blog said she offered a 'string of incendiary charges,' but quoted only one: "This man is serving in the White House with a stolen Social Security number."

I'd say there's a darn good chance that Newt has no clue what she's talking about at that point. Allegations about Obama's SSN are, to the general public that doesn't follow Birtherism, incredibly obscure. If he doesn't know who Orly is, and he doesn't know about conspiracy theories surrounding Obama's SSN, he's not really in a position to adamantly declare 'That's nonsense!' Because mentally, he may just be thinking 'WTF?'

To my interpretation, Mr. Gingrich clearly acknowledged the validity of the evidence against Obama. Sounded to me like he gave you a big thumbs up Orly! Mr. Gingrich is a smart man who picks his words very carefully. It is no accident that he encouraged you to “pursue” the case against Obama.
Constantly impressed by your courage and smarts orly.

In the same way as you smile and nods at the nutter who accosts you in the street to tell you that the man in the newsagent is a shapeshifting reptilian. Keep smiling and nodding as you plan your escape. It's not encouragement, it's self-preservation.

Trick is: don't stop trying. Art is: insult her good and make her think she's posting a favorable comment.

Yet to those outside the inner "movement", is that a problem or a present from the doGs?

The more her followers adopt her framing and her outrageous, incendiary phrasing, the more they, too, instantly offend the disinterested listener. No one who is not already driven by racial animus or a predisposition to embrace conspiracy theories is likely to be swayed by their diatribes. To anyone else, they're a turnoff.

To date, only The Donald has required public schooling -- in part because he is famous and in part because he didn't come off as sounding quite as batshit-crazy as Orly's flying monkeys.

To people like Orly, starved for any sort of positive reinforcement and encouragement from anyone of any import, anything other than "get the fuck out of my face, you crazy bitch" is considered support.

I admit, when that one Birther at Carl's Capitol rally started telling me about international monetary conspiracies and chemtrails and flouride brainwashing, I did a lot of smiling and nodding too.

HuffPo: Newt Gingrich Dismisses Birther Question From Orly Taitz
Quote:
Orly Taitz took her anti-Obama birther crusade to GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich on Monday, only to come up empty-handed. Again.

[...]

After answering concerns about the state of his campaign following a slide in recent polls and primary contests, Taitz came forward, suggesting that the birther issue could provide a "boost" to his candidacy if he made it a hallmark issue.

"Somebody who wouldn't be good enough, who wouldn't be certified to pick tomatoes or clean bathrooms is sitting in the White House," Taitz told Gingrich, reportedly to a mixed reception[*] from the largely Tea Party audience.

* " 'Somebody who wouldn't be good enough, who wouldn't be certified to pick tomatoes or clean bathrooms is sitting in the White House,' Taitz told Gingrich, to gasps and some applause from the tea party audience."
