ATTENTION PLEASE!!!

We are not going to institute a Pay Pal button. Politijab.com has credibility for the reason that we do NOT solicit donations.

Thank you for your kind offers, but my post was intended as a joke.

Got it, and sorry I misunderstood.

I was just thinking about one possible way to help prevent PJ from losing credibility if we did start trying to make it easier for people to pitch in, but I do understand why the board doesn't solicit donations at all, and it makes a LOT of sense.

Edit: Edited to respond to mimi, also, without creating an additional message

RE: Paypal. Okay gang what we need to have here is a "band booster club" whether it be by paypal or whatever, BUT, basically we all chip in whatever we think we can afford to the cause. The money stays in a "trust or escrow" account (all of the lawyers here know what that is) any member who has expended money for a cause for the common good (ie the above transcript) submits an invoice to "the fund" and is reimbursed, (for instance I think that bogus info has a boat load of long distance calls that could be reimbursed, just sayin). Particularly we can all chip in for the cost of these transcripts. I do not know how to figure out the logistics of this but I definitely think that we need an "escrow account" out of which we pay expenses. This is not a "paypal" scam, this is simply a way that law firms do business every day. I do not see a problem with that. Let us run this thing the way a reputable law firm would. End of story.

Edited to add - this will not be a global request for donations, this would be the regular members of PJ chipping in for things like transcripts, no I do not think that PJ should have a paypal button, we should not go down that road, but I think that we can have a member (Mod?) hold an escrow account through which we pay for transcripts etc.

The easiest thing is to send a check to someone. I sent my contribution to Greenie. But we also need some anonymity on this board. There may be lurkers and moles. So, as tacky as PayPal is (and boy does it stink -- an eBay Company now), at least it permitted some level of anonymity. Checks don't. Of course, we could all send cash to a P.O. Box I can set up in Malibu.

Re the Paypal thing. Seems more sensible just if some particularly large and expensive thing that can be done piecemeal arises, such as a particular busy docket with lots of docs with multiple attachments that add up to more someone can afford, or wants to spend, they can just post the relevant docket and people can download as they wish, put up on Scribd, or post RECAP links after downloading. Contribute by doing, rather than by mindlessly coughing up money for nothing specific.

For things this doesn't work for, informally contact whoever it is who is doing it and offer to defray their costs somehow.

My .02. No PayPal...and I KNOW for a FACT that Justin, Chicken Legs and Greenie will never add a Paypal button to PJ.

Perhaps we could have someone who collects the email addys of folks who are willing to donate on a voluntary basis when expenses for transcripts and etc arise. Once the list is compiled privately, a mass email can go to those who have added their name to the voluntary donations list. If all emails were sent BCC, no one would know who is or is not on the list, thus providing anonymity. When an expense arises, a mass email can be sent and those who want to donate for that specific item can do so. Once the item has been paid for, a receipt can be mass emailed to those who donated.

Justin, we really need a funny nickname for you! Stern, I assign you with the task (honor?) of assigning our fearless leader with a funny nickname. Ya did a great job with Chicken Legs and Greenie.

Except that leaves out those of us who don't live in the United States. The cost of processing a check drawn on my UK bank is high.

Justin owns PJ. I don't think he'll ever have a PayPal button.

Yes, I pitched in for the cost of the transcript. I'm trying to think of an idea that will make it available to everyone, but trust me on this one, it isn't earthshaking and you really aren't missing that much.

OK, there's a homophone (populous != populace), but basically all the stupid that comes out of Orly's piehole is stock quotes you've all read for months on her blog.

I will say, that's a whole different Judge Carter than the one I knew. Maybe because of the circumstances ... when he ran the criminal calendar in the county courthouse, he didn't get to stay till "1 a.m., and on weekends" as he made his reporter and clerks repeat. He had dozens and dozens of cases, and everybody left at 5 p.m. There was more pressure on him to keep things moving along.

He does have the same sense of humor, and he has an obvious pride in his court that rings true. After his years as a state court judge, it makes perfect sense that he'd show up on the federal bench with a passion for streamlining and efficient court administration.

I think he misjudged Orly, though. All those times he said "You've got all day, you've got all night, you can show back up at 5 p.m. (after his regular calendar) and we'll keep going forever" were supposed to put pressure on the lawyers. David DeJute sure doesn't have all day. He prob'ly has some serious cases to work on, where his opposing counsel is competent. Not Orly. She'd have jumped at the chance to make Judge Carter work on her case from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. She'd have loved every friggin' minute of being the only case in the courtroom, and proving how "important" it was.

That's why, at the end, Judge Carter had to order her to serve it properly. He realized he was giving her the wrong signals in the first half of the hearing.

I don't think anyone is asking for a PayPal button, just a PayPal account to which some of us who use it can contribute to projects that cost money, reimbursing the person who spent it. The account doesn't have to be connected to PJ itself.

Justin is The Wizard of Oz. However, that's a bit long. So, in the style of an old, wonderful Sean Connery film, I hereby humbly suggest Zardoz.

Stern if you can come up with something better to name him then that's cool. I just know that certain parties will never let him live down the current name no matter how hard he tries.

Since it results from official PJ business makes it so much more funny, at least to me.

Maybe now would be a good time to oficially request a tater tot smilie if Chicken Legs can ever find one.

It appears as though I'd better address the "PayPal" issue which seems to have sprung into existence out of virtually nowhere.

First... not that I've seen anyone specifically make this assumption or accusation, but the idea for a button to collect donations to help reimburse Realist for any costs related to procuring court transcripts was not put forth or officially endorsed by myself on behalf of the site. The site will not have a PayPal button for that purpose. That said... if Realist wanted to create a PayPal account for his own use and provide that information to the members here via a post or PM for that purpose... I would have no issue with that. All transactions would be between yourself and Realist as a personal matter not associated with Politijab.

Second... Foggy and LMK aren't ENTIRELY accurate as to my stance on a PayPal button. Please allow me to clarify.

PayPal, in and of itself, isn't an evil thing. Granted, it carries a pretty heavy negative connotation around here particularly because of the association with Berg's site, Orly's, Ed Hale's, etc. etc. etc. Basically, the only exposure PayPal buttons get on this site are due to "opportunists" squeezing their moron followers for money. Remember though... birfers and others like them are MORONS. Frankly, at this late date, I doubt I could convince the majority of people here to send me free money. *chuckle*

However... one should never say never. If this site does continue to grow and starts to consistently outpace the hosting resources already currently purchased, then it may be a consideration to offer a means for willing members to donate to improve the performance of the site. That is pretty much the only reason that comes to mind that I might ever consider adding a PayPal button to the site, and we're not at that point just yet. Sure, we have our occasional busy days with some slowdowns and brief error screens, but things aren't out of hand just yet. If the day should come where our hosting absolutely needs to be upgraded, we can have this discussion again then. That day has not yet arrived and probably won't for some while. Breathe easy folks... and don't blame PayPal for the misdeeds of the evil and stupid. They're a decent company with some very valid and handy uses. :)

Edit: If "Tater" is the best Brian can come up with, he has bigger issues. Kind of a direct rip-off from Ron White, if you ask me. Pretty weak. You folks can do better, I'm quite certain.

I assure you, it's a lot better than some nicknames I've had in the past... and no, I'm not sharing. ;)

Nonetheless... it's certainly not a nickname that defines me in any reasonable way. Sure, it was amusing... but it's pretty limited in scope... like Brian's brain.

Only fits to you (and Tes, but that's because of you...) I won't be answering to it. And I'd likely scrub all mention of it from any attempts to make use of it.
