Don't make me pick your brains. [-X

CAUTION! Many of the links in the posts on the first two pages on this thread are links to Politijab, not Fogbow.

No, I'm not takin' the time to fix 'em all. [-(

Hey, I was first to vote! I am not sure I would like to see different background colors allowed for text. That would make for a psychedelic looking page. I wouldn't want to tinker too much with PJ because it looks good the way it is.

One feature I would like to see was not in the list. I would like to see the "View New Posts" choice on every page I find myself always going to the Board Index then clicking on "View New Posts". That would save a step. By the way, tips thread you posted a while back was great. I learned a nifty features from that.

While I have the floor:

I read PJ on my Blackberry when I travel. Now that some sections are members only I have to log in every time I come back. I understand why the change was made but is there any way to stay logged in on a mobile device like you can with cookies on a PC?

Perahps only ONE 'highlight' color, such as soft blue or soft yellow? The bolding feature does not do a good job of highlighting a portion of text we want to emphasize.

Can this "code" to produce the reslult below be a live (or whatever the term is) BBC code? For the life of me, I can not make it work.

Each time I try to use it, the word/words I want highlighted and underlined appear, but the link remains as the link rather than just the words showing in the post.

Politijab Forum

Yes, I'm a computer idiot, I freely admit it. :oops:

I just can not figure out what I am doing wrong to make it work. :(

The limit on the number of nested quotes drives me nuts. Can it be changed?

I'm working on that. I might make it "View active topics" Instead. I know that can be done, but I have to figure out how to do it.

That one's a little tougher, but I'll keep it in mind and try to figure out how to do it.

Great idea, ellie. I'll do yellow and see how people like it.

On the other hand, don't be fooled into thinking PJ is a democracy, when it's really co-dictatorship. :mrgreen:

I didn't know there was a limit. Let me look at that. How many nested quotes does it allow now?

... and I read realist's request four times and I still can't figure out what he's asking. :?:

Do you want underlined blue text with NO link? 'Cause, I mean, if it's blue and underlined, people are gonna click on it expecting it to be a link.

Foggy

I think realist is talking about using BBC code to produce a blue underlined link that you posted in your hints thread a while back. I think it was this:

Code:
[url=LINK][color=blue][u]TEXT[/u][/color][/url]

I am confused also because the link he provided worked exactly as it was supposed to work. I downloaded a neat little Firefox add on called BBCode that is useful on PJ and at other blogs. I defined a custom tag for the link function shown above. You have to be careful that the blog supports the codes from BBCode before you use them. PJ has a very nice composition window so about the only thing I use it for here is for making the fancy links.

On edit:

I think realist just needs the instructions for the fancy links. It was explained here

If you click View New Posts and then drag the icon in the address bar to your quick-launch tray down there on the left side of the status bar, you have a link back to View New Posts. But I would also like it at the bottom of each page, too.

I've been having problems making that work (because I'm a dummy and I've admitted it). :lol:

I think I've finally figured that part out, so it does work

What I'm really asking is can that code just be included in the buttons at the top of the reply box so we don't have to go get and copy and paste it when we want to use it, or can someone just explain a different way to do it than a copy and paste. HELP!! in other words.

can you do a screen shot of this? I can't figure out what Icon you're referencing, unless you're suggesting adding Vew New Topics as a Favorite (outside of PJ - i.e., basic browsing process). Help?

You know where in your browser the address of the URL appears? To the left of that, in Firefox and in IE, is an icon, either of the browser or a custom icon created by the siteowner. Right to the left of "http://..." in the address bar.

I KNEW this would be a nightmare! I KNEW it! :lol:

For realist: No, I can't make a button that does all that, since it's really COMBINING a bunch of BBCodes. What I do is put that string in a simple text file, so I can just copy and paste it into a post.

For Tes:
Here's a screenshot of the Address Bar in my Firefox browser:

[center]Image[/center]

Note that the address MUST be as shown in the screenshot:

Code:
http://www.politijab.com/phpBB3/search.php?search_id=newposts

I circled the icon Patricia mentioned in red. Click on it and drag it all the way down to the bottom of your monitor screen, just to the right of the Start button, where the Quicklaunch icons are. If you don't have Quicklaunch icons showing, right-click on the blank area to the right of your Start button (called the Taskbar), and choose Toolbars -> Quick Launch.

Meanwhile, here's a new BBCode just to test out and see if y'all like it, since we get a lot of posts that say "Edited to add". It's called "edit" and it works like this.

Write some text, highlight it, and click the edit button. It will look like this before you post it.

Code:
[edit]This is going to drive me insane.[/edit]

Here's what it looks like when you use it:

Edit: This is going to drive me insane.

I am such a putz at times. I had already done that with the main PJ page. All you have to do (in Firefox) is grab the link to new posts and drag it to the links tool bar. It probably will work the same in IE.

OK, kids, here'a another new one -- drum roll, please.

Set the width of your image if you need to "shrink to fit". Note that this will not distort your image ... the height will follow along with the width. Best width for viewing a large graphic is 640 (pixels).

Syntax:
Wrap the image with the "imgwidth=" button, and then put the width you want inside the first part of the BBCode, as shown here:

Code:
[imgwidth=640]http://www.sluniverse.com/snapshots/293277.jpg[/imgwidth]

See that "imgwidth=640"? That makes the graphic 640 pixels wide.

Example:

    Full size (meaning only half the graphic shows, the rest is cut off):

    Code:
    [img]http://www.sluniverse.com/snapshots/293277.jpg[/img]

    Image

    640 pixels wide:

    Code:
    [imgwidth=640]http://www.sluniverse.com/snapshots/293277.jpg[/imgwidth]

    100 pixels wide:

    Code:
    [imgwidth=100]http://www.sluniverse.com/snapshots/293277.jpg[/imgwidth]

Alright, that's two new ones, and that's MY LAST GOOD DEED FOR TODAY! :lol:

You may embed only 3 quotes within each other.

Groovy? How old are you again, Ellie? :shock:

Oh, yeah ... and I sent Justin 15 new smilies to upload, when he checks his email ...

I don't think anyone has ever used the "geek" or "uber-geek" smilies. OK to lose 'em?

Absolutely. If a geek or uber-geek comes along and feels shorted, we can always put them back.
