Everything else seems to be running well. Another thing that happens is, two people post at the same time. The software is going to hold one back while processing the other one. Every so often I'll put up a post, and by the time I see it on the board there's already another post after it. Might just be a question of timing. I can't find anything wrong with the board.

For some reason, posting is taking a very long time. Everything else is responding well, just the submitting new posts.

The "preview" of this post took 21 seconds before responding.

:-k

That must account for the double posts that appear on some threads.

Yesterday, the time for "submit" to show a result also took a while, but I accounted for that by my being at Washington National Airport and using their slow WiFi. Even their "I Agree" page comes up slowly. Maybe it started yesterday.

It took 20 seconds to connect to submit. So, yes, something is slowing something down somewhere.

Optimized the database and restarted the server. Let's see if that speeds up anything.

Test. Let's see how it works.

Edit: Posting took 3 or 4 seconds. :-bd

I remember when Politijab was a no-page-load and by the way you're logged off and good luck trying to log back on, even if you're the admin.

Our database is monstrous. It was 615 MB before optimizing; 613.something after.

We have damn near a third of a million posts. I'm going to have to start trimming soon, I think. Gotta look at that.

We could cut back future posting level if we modulate the old grouchy guy... :geezer:

We could also try to not completely quote long posts and carrying them over for several posts, including pics and videos.

Just sayin'. 8>

Shoot, I'm just trying to keep me from collapsing under my own weight.

That's just good practice in general, but the size of the database has no impact on the forum's performance during normal operations. 10 posts or 10 million, no matter. Foggy restarting MySQL (or rebooting the entire virtual server) is what fixed the sluggish posting problem of this morning.

Like all of today's hi tech toys (laptops, smart phones and pads), they all work better after a reboot.

OK, that's odd, considering we're nowhere near our peak usage numbers.

Anybody else being logged out?

I wasn't logged out, but the site was struggling to load several times.
