Just brain storming here...
So, NOLA didn't work out as originally scheduled, which is a pity. But, if we do a S. Cal. meetup, we might be able to pick up some of that Louisiana vibe as a consolation prize. It turns out that Mr. Good Authority is acquainted with this guy who leads the hottest Zydeco band in S. Cal. Someone Eppie knows came out and saw them open the Gator By The Bay festival in San Diego last weekend.
So, who knows, maybe this band might be able to schedule a little event that would coincide with the chosen weekend. It's a possibility - grist for the mill.
Allrighty.
Here's some info that could be factored into the equation.
It appears that the date preferences have converged on Aug. 12-14. Yes?
Well, as luck would have it, Aug. 14 coincides with a monthly Zydeco event in Long Beach at the PCH Club, which is part of the Golden Sails hotel on PCH (just a short distance from Cal State Long Beach). As it turns out, a band has not yet been booked for that date. Furthermore, the band that is led by the guy who is acquainted with Mr. Good Authority has the option of playing that day (he has the option because he is one of the folks that runs the darn thing! And, the partners have agreed to the scenario.)
The time of the event is from 5-9. The PCH Club is pretty nice, and there is also a restaurant in an adjacent room. There is a cover charge, which would normally be $15, but that would be lowered to $10 this time (there are some actual working professional musicians involved, and it is nice for them to be paid.) However, the cover charge is waived for hotel guests.
For your further edification, the band in question is known as The Zydeco Mudbugs. They happen to be the best S.Cal. based Zydeco band in existence today, and people are starting to figure that out. The Mudbugs have a modest MySpace page:
MySpace.com/ZydecoMudbugs
I should mention that an additional possibility is that The Mudbugs also do private parties, and I suspect that something could be worked out for Friday or Saturday if that was preferable. The Calabasas hotel is appealing...
