What you got against starting your own thread, instead of thread jacking this one, dude?

Go ahead, let's see you do some planning in your very own thread. After all, we do want this to be "fair," don't we?

Portland

We had a meet up of folks from Atrios/Eschaton there in Sept 08, about 25 or 30 folks from as far away as Vermont and Florida. I'm sure we could get a bunch of Atriots there, our two groups would mesh very well.

I took antler hats for everyone.

Might Mr. Great Grey be available in Sept 2011 to bring antler hats to the gathering?

Portland is a good idea. It is 3 hours south of Seattle and 2 hours north of Eugene, so everyone on the I-5 would have a reasonable drive.

Let me get through Fri and I will get a thread started and a poll for dates. Or someone else may have the great honor of doing so. I am thinking Sept so that we don't in any way conflict with the Aug gathering. ;;)

:-bd

Is anyone in contact with Smithereens? I know he has mentioned interest in attending a gathering in the past, but I haven't seen him around in a while.

Is I the only TFB lady folk in the PNW? What to do .... what to do. I might get myself in heaps of trouble!

If you wear that hat you just might!

The Country Inn at Calabasas has re-opened. Here's the website: http://www.countryinns.com/calabasas-ho ... 2/cacalaba

Apparently there was a "change of ownership."

I plan to go meet with the sales director Friday or next week. But I need to get an idea how many people will be coming. It looks like we're on for August 12-14.

Please let me know ASAP.

This hotel is located in "Old Town" Calabasas, the last western town (and stagecoach stop) in L.A. County. It's down the street from a half dozen good restraurants, and also the Sagebrush Cantina. It's across the street from a fabulous shopping center called the Commons of Calabasas. And it's only 6 miles from my palatial estate.

So -- we're on. But I need an approximate headcount to reserve rooms and negotiate with the sales department. Please let me know soonest if you are coming and will be staying at the Country Inn.

As an extra added attraction, I believe Shrek will be coming over from Scotland.

I'm there, possibly staying at the Inn one night only (sat) though, since I live about an hour's drive away.

Just brain storming here...

So, NOLA didn't work out as originally scheduled, which is a pity. But, if we do a S. Cal. meetup, we might be able to pick up some of that Louisiana vibe as a consolation prize. It turns out that Mr. Good Authority is acquainted with this guy who leads the hottest Zydeco band in S. Cal. Someone Eppie knows came out and saw them open the Gator By The Bay festival in San Diego last weekend.

So, who knows, maybe this band might be able to schedule a little event that would coincide with the chosen weekend. It's a possibility - grist for the mill.

Allrighty.

Here's some info that could be factored into the equation.

It appears that the date preferences have converged on Aug. 12-14. Yes?

Well, as luck would have it, Aug. 14 coincides with a monthly Zydeco event in Long Beach at the PCH Club, which is part of the Golden Sails hotel on PCH (just a short distance from Cal State Long Beach). As it turns out, a band has not yet been booked for that date. Furthermore, the band that is led by the guy who is acquainted with Mr. Good Authority has the option of playing that day (he has the option because he is one of the folks that runs the darn thing! And, the partners have agreed to the scenario.)

The time of the event is from 5-9. The PCH Club is pretty nice, and there is also a restaurant in an adjacent room. There is a cover charge, which would normally be $15, but that would be lowered to $10 this time (there are some actual working professional musicians involved, and it is nice for them to be paid.) However, the cover charge is waived for hotel guests.

For your further edification, the band in question is known as The Zydeco Mudbugs. They happen to be the best S.Cal. based Zydeco band in existence today, and people are starting to figure that out. The Mudbugs have a modest MySpace page:

MySpace.com/ZydecoMudbugs

I should mention that an additional possibility is that The Mudbugs also do private parties, and I suspect that something could be worked out for Friday or Saturday if that was preferable. The Calabasas hotel is appealing...

I'm not sure where k-k-k-Kasa de Kardashian is, but if it is owned by this spawn of the late Robert Kardashian, and she still lives there., about 1 mile away.

I'm coming... but won't need the room. I've got three sisters in the area.

And I love them more than you.

Mario Apuzzo doesn't think you have any sisters around here.

If you're coming, let me know. You can PM me if you want to maintain your invisibility. I also need a head count to negotiate with the Country Inn at Calabasas.
