Military Dogs

This amazes me -

Some dogs can be trained to be therapy dogs, providing companionship and unconditional love for veterans with PTSD or other disabling injuries. My image is that the wounded veteran returns with the dog to a time before it all fell apart, childhood with the faithful dog always at one's side. For others, it would be the pony, a cat, or one of the other animals that have become human companions.

Cats are far less frequently used in warfare, although there is an ancient story that Thai warriors wore Korat cats into battle. The cat, perched on the warrior's head, was poised to attack the face of the enemy. The warrior and the cat had often grown up together, forming a close bond.

A few cats are now being trained as therapy animals. They seem especially sensitive to changes in mood and can be trained to provide comfort when the anxiety of PTSD begins to crest. There is one report of a cat who spent the day at the office in his companion's briefcase, climbing out to nibble the veteran's ear when the cat detected rising anxiety.

There is a shortage of therapy cats, despite a population explosion of unwanted cats. Many cats cannot be trained to serve in this role. This one made it through training and now makes the rounds at a treatment facility. Look at the expression on the veteran's face when the cat has to move on.

Went to a friend's art show in November, he had one of those thingys on his iPad to pay. I was his first customer, and right after "signing" with my finger, my phone went off with an offer to get a SQUARE of my very own.

After the art show, went to a craft show, "Wild Women of the North", those thingys were everywhere.

It's not a bad deal as credit cards go, they charge a much smaller commission than many other providers.
