YES it is. When our earlier cat passed from just being old -Tasha. We waited quite a while for that reason. Then Ginger showed up kinda just at the right time. I took time out to grieve for my lost friend, then promptly talked Ms DB into getting 2 kittehs. It is so much better this way. If something happens to one of them, we will be looking for another after we have gone through the grief process again.

YES it is worth every joy/cat turd/hair/friendship/curtains/ups and downs.
I am really excited as we get to train them ourselves so the fit will be a custom one.

Now you can see why I was excited about this guy. He also seems to be a quick learner too.

I fell in love with his pic along with Stella - Ms DB really likes Stella.
I took Ms DB cat hunting to see what else was out there. Nothing hit either me or her like these 2.
Love at first bite. :D

Sue, I'm so glad for you and Mrs. DB. Your babies are seriously precious and I'm so glad Stella has Chester to help her make the adjustment to your home and fambly.

Yeah, I have yet to see a dog dressed up in one of those costumes that didn't have that look on its face.

Either that look, or the "Oh, I am SO gonna poop in you slippers" look.

Both kitties stayed in the bathroom for a couple of days, but Chester seemed to be anxious to explore other rooms. I left the door open (between my bedroom and the bath. Chester came bounding out ended up hopping on the bed wanting some attention. Ms Stella is a little more low key and shier, but after a 1/2 hours she came peaking out -the found the hidyholes I made got comforatable, slept, then she was ready for some loving.

The adoption folks want us to do a week confined, but Chester seemed just SOOOO ready. They love the cat food and use the litter box quite well. Makes me happy :D :D :D

I will keep them in my room for a while longer before even thinking of opening another door.

That's great! Stella is so lovely, and Chester is a cutie-pie!

This morning Mr. K referred to our foster kitties as "our cats". Their previous foster mama is still trying to find them a good permanent home, with no luck, and when I told him about her latest message on the subject, he replied "Why is she trying to find another home for our cats?" So I am resigning myself to my fate as a crazy cat lady - five cats in a 4-bedroom house is perilously close to the line, if not all the way over it.

I saw where you were warning us of this....I hope your 5 cats enjoy themselves. Bless your heart. I do love kitties.

As I said I got a bout a 5 month feral living around here somewhere. The cat's chances of being socialized with humans decreases every day. I'm going to try to trap the little thing and take her to the feral cat folks who fix em/test/shots for 10.00 as long as I put the cat back where I found it.

So my foster kitties got a new treat last night. Their former foster mama doesn't eat much meat, and doesn't eat red meat at all, so I don't think they ever had beef except for beef flavored cat food.

Yesterday I made shredded beef for tacos in the crockpot. When I was in the kitchen shredding up the cooked brisket, they, along with two of my other cats, gathered in the kitchen to beg for bits of meat. (My orange boy doesn't like spiced or sauced meat, just plain meat, so he didn't join them.) Once they got a taste, I couldn't drop shreds fast enough for them!

The foster-girl, Ginger, is becoming fast buddies with my Siamese lynx-point mix, Yokai, and is learning all his bad habits, including begging for spicy meat, cream cheese, butter, and anything else yummy that might be on offer. No, nobody's spoiled at my house. 8>

Mr.B, my Gracie, who I believe was feral before she chose my house, although she might just have escaped from someone who didn't care enough to feed her properly, was about 5 months when she claimed me. I thought she was just a baby, but the vet said she was malnourished. She's a purry little thing, doesn't like to be held, but loves getting pets, sitting in laps in the winter and snuggling under the covers, with people but more with my pug.

Don't give up on him.

I highly recommend boxes. Even for a cat who is not shy or afraid, they seem to serve some need. If cats do view themselves as prey, boxes (appear to them to) provide concealment. I don't think warmth has much to do with it for my cats; they have space heaters that would do a better job of that.

A big ultrasonic humidifier arrived packed in the customary enormous box lined with that serpentine packing paper. Cisco has adopted it as his own preserve. If the top closes (or I close it), he will eventually pop up to peer around and then go back inside. Sometimes he is under the packing paper.

The famous Japanese cat Maru has an obsession with boxes, even soda can boxes from which both ends of the cat protrude.

I am not sure that humans have an equivalent comfort space.

Ditto. I have two semi-feral cats, the offspring of their feral mom who brought them to my patio area when they were a few days old. Their brother, the sick one of the litter, was handled enough to become socialized while I was having him pumped full of antibiotics and vitamins, and he became my big (16#) insider, Brownie. But I couldn't give Creamy and Spacehat away when they were kittens because they were never socialized and would hide when anyone came around to see them. As a result, they still live in my patio.

Creamy is still very skittish of people, although often she sleeps on the cat shelf outside my window. The screen is enough to make her feel safe and her brother Brownie will lie against her through the screen.

But a few years ago, when he was about 2, Spacehat broke his leg and couldn't run away from me. I made a nice place on the outdoor couch for him, with a concrete block to use as a step up and down, and I also got some pain meds from the vet (good stuff - morphine-based elixir delivered by a dropper). Twice a day, I'd go out there to put his food down and, since he couldn't run away quickly, I'd sit on the couch next to him, give him a little squirt of pain medicine, and pet him.

Pretty soon, he was really looking forward to my visits. He didn't even struggle to get up - instead, he'd roll over to get his belly scritched, and purr. He's all healed up now, and from that experience, developed a whole different attitude about people. He's now a friendly, talkative guy who loves his bellyscritches and catnip parties.

I have to wonder about the concealment factor. I have a cat that looks very similar to Maru but a bit, shall we say, "fluffier". He'll climb into boxes where at least 3/4 of him is literally outside the box with much of his "fluffiness" hanging over the edges of the box. He'll do this even if there is a more appropriate size box a foot away. My other cats do this as well but since they are less "fluffy" there is less over hang so it's not quite as funny looking..

Not a mention of a catz anywhere, just cat and cats so I'm OK. :-

My darling Ms. Peaches, who is, not to put too fine a point on it, completely and utterly insane, is a former feral kitty. I adore her, despite the fact that she is insane, but she is a Daddy's girl and loves my husband with a passion. She will rest on his chest while he is lounging in bed watching tv, and lick his face, knead his chest, and snuzzle his face all day long. She does the same to me, for about 3 nano seconds until she bites my nose, snatches at my arms drawing blood and attacks my hands. After being smacked by me for said behavior she will then move back to DH and behave like the perfect little princess.
