Sometimes the kitties just know when you need some feline companionship. :D

I hope tomorrow goes well and you end up with two new additions to the family!

Uh oh, be careful or you'll have 3 cats.

My outdoor black cat, Sooner, just appeared and settled in one day. He was pretty well socialized and healthy, although his fur was so matted that I had to give him a mohawk to get them all out. I never found out where he came from.

There are now two black cats outside. The big one is female and would come up to me, but the other is a smaller youngster who is scared to death to be near a human. I think the little one may be feral.

We live on col-d-sac in the country. There are news stories up here about folks moving etc and taking the pet to a lonely country col-d-sac. I wish one of the bastards would at least come to the door to see if I wanted a cat.
It beats a lot of other things that could happen to a pet.

SueDB is now using four sets of cats' paws as the avatar. Does this indicate four cats have a home?

Got the 2 Kittehs last night from the foster human - Feline Friends dot net - no kill adoption agency. They have a nice Cat House.

The 4 sets of paws is because Mr. Bill is using the CAT one I have used before. No problem as there are enough avatars to go around the world several times.

I will post some pics when they get settled in.
1 is a very nice blue/gray (mamma was applehead Siamese - daddy a smooth talking devil in fur) kitten/young cat about 7 months old. Very timid so far, but I have a feeling that she will be THE lap cat. Her name is now Stella after Ms SueDB's gma. Very pretty soft and has a nice purr when I can get her to settle down a little.

2 is like the orange cat I always wanted (spoiled brat - me) Regular Orange (was) male kitty about 6 months old. He is very active and is settling to their 1 room (for a week or mebbe later depends on how cat reacts when let into another room. I have a feeling this guy is going to be a curtain climber, a counter walker (fix that - newspaper over a couple a small mouse traps daily until the paper is undisturbed. After a little bit, he really started to warm up. Keeping up with this kitty is going to be a full time job. His name is Chester after Ms SueDB gpa, and I just call him Chester Cheese
Thank you all for your support, suggestions, and general good time on this thread
SueDB

PS not to be a drama queen - y'all did help me very much through a tough time. My heart pines for Ginger however, these two lovely kittehs kinda just fell out of the sky so to speak. Life goes on.

Got a little feral black cat about 6 months that has been hanging around. I've started to feed it as I would like to trap it to keep it away from my house. It snarfs kitteh food, so putting some in a trap should be duck soop. My cats are indoor cats, but accidents do happen and doors do get left open. :(

I have found that a quiet request and explanation of what kind of behavior I require works very well on my cats. In fact several minutes each day they are not doing something bad. It has been a good 90 seconds since Weeny leapt through the kitchen/dining room passthrough, walked across the counter, the oven and a plate and tried to stick her head in a brewing coffee pot.

At least the kitchen looks good in the photo.

Yay, new kittehs! I hope they continue to settle in well and I'm sure you'll enjoy every minute with them - even the ones when they're on the counter. ;)

I haven't heard of the mousetrap trick - sounds like it would be hilarious to watch.

Another suggestion is to use canned air and just give them a little blast in the face whenever they go somewhere they're not supposed to.

It's so hard to say goodbye to our furry friends. Two of my best friends haven't had pets for years because they don't want to have to deal with that kind of loss again.

But all the love and joy they bring is worth it, isn't it?

Ah yes, the canned cat repellent. I keep a can at my desk, but it only teaches them not to do that when I'm at my desk.

Louie Velour has retaliated by chewing the ends of the plastic tubes shut, so the tube blows off when I use it.

That is one smart kitteh! Hopefully, the tubes don't end up bonking him in the face - though that might finally learn 'im.)

Tav, long ago I decided that I'd rather spend a good, long time with the fuzzbutts I love than worry about the brief hurt when they're gone. It's how you have to be when you love companion animals.

I can no longer imagine my life with out at least one...

Who sez cats aren't smart...????
I have used the spray bottle with just water. The canned air sounds like a lot less clean up. Gotta find a real wholesaler for a can. They can get expensive even at Costco.

I used the mousetrap trick when I had a dog that liked to jump on the furniture (sofa). Just get a couple packages of cheap mousetraps, set them up, cover them with newspaper. When you get home you will know if the dog got on the couch or not. Soon you will come home and the paper will be undisturbed. Then go another week without the mousetraps and see if the newspaper is crinkled. Rinse, Repeat until the desired results are reached.

These are the first counter climbers I have had in a long time. Chester Cheeze is settling in very nicely. Stella will take a little time (hides) and I have been able to get her to purr and settle down playing lap cat....put cat on lap, rub/scratch fur. She just will take time.

I have them in my bathroom for at least a week. Chester should be an ez transition. Stella will just take time, patience, and lots of lov'in :) :) :D :D :D

PS I think I need to order a box of commas from Orly. She seems to have cornered the market for the moment.

I completely agree with you. The kittehs have become a nice part of my life. I like to meditate with one hand petting the kitteh. I get great visualizations of the feeling of the fine fur. It really does help settle my system down when the Crohn's kicks up. I also find I need less painkillers. ( BTW Ultrim® tramadol sucks for pain.) Was able to cut the painkillers down 1 less dose on some days.

We are both medically retired. When they get old enough, I want to get both of them certified as therapy animals. I'll have to harness and leash train them and ensure all the immunizations are up to date. The agency considered them indoor cats, so we have to take them to our Fabulous Vet for a check in. The adoption fee was $64.00 each, and they gave us 2 sets of coupons for the feed store next door for a "free" bag of kitty litter (x2), Frozen chicken treats (x2), 3 small cans of Taste of the Wild (x2), and a bag of kitteh food (x2). Each package was $40.00 retail now free with $5.00 kickback to the agency.
For 130.00 we got 80.00 worth of quality cat stuff and 2 beautiful kittehs.

Can't wait to see pictures of your family members! Someday I'm going to have to me a camera -- and learn how to use it so I don't end up with multiple pictures of my thumb. I've tried taking pictures of my cats with my iPhone, but as I've said before, I either get an exteme close up of their inner eye, or rather graphic pictures of their backsides as they walk away from me.

Many nursing homes and children's hospitals provide therapy animals, usually a dog or cat. They are also used in some VA facilities, particularly those focused on PTSD.

CNN Service dog helps veteran with PTSD

Daily Mercury Pets' love helps heal human pain

I think the lesson is that taking care of another and giving love to another are good for us.

Fluffy might be an exception to this.
