We'd be better off if the drug were legal and people could have a pure form of the drug and treatment for its effects, and more importantly, medical care to get off the drugs.

All that would happen is that people with a constant supply would soon want more and go right back to the dealers.

So how would the dealers turn a profit when the drugs were legal? Are there gangsters selling cut-rate cigarettes or liquor?

It would depend on whether the legal source would provide as much as an individual can grab, or if it is a metered dose leaving the junkie looking for more. When there isn't an outside legal source for the drug, putting it on a prescription basis isn't going to help.

Uh, yes there are. Cigarette smuggling is huge.

And as SueDB says they will simply run to the dealers to get the extra dose they want. The Dealers will simply jack their prices to maintain their profits.

When I said "legalize," I meant legalize. I have frankly never seen what power the federal government has to exercise authority in an area that has traditionally been within the state police power, in any case. Therefore, I disagree with decisions, such as Gonzales v. Raich, which uphold such authority when Congress is not even addressing interstate commerce. "Regulating" interstate commerce certainly doesn't constitute shutting it down entirely.

And yes, to anyone out there who might have been startled by that statement, I'm familiar with Champion, Wickard (which I support), and a variety of other cases reading the Commerce Clause expansively, as I do, and as a majority of even the current conservative SCOTUS Justices do.

Sorry to anyone confused by me putting my statements on this issue on a United States federalist basis, but any solution to the drug problem of the United States will have to have a solution unique to our federal system. It may be that the ultimate solution is that the federal government stands aside while the states figure it out. That seems to be Eric Holder's position.

Our current system, however, is completely untenable, and is funding drug-related violence that harms innocent people, not only in the United States but within the borders of our allies as well. It is untenable, and we have to terminate it. Innocent people are dying because of the USA's inability to deal with its own drug consumption problem. Thugs and criminals are profiting from it. By this, I do not mean drug dealers alone. I mean the creeps and parasites running our prison system.

Just throw the damn stick!

Now that's a nice one.

But remember, cats will bring you home mice in various state of deadness and crunch them under your bed at night. You'll never see a dog do this

Yes, We Can Has 2012!

Should do a little cut and paste, put cats heads on the civilians in that "Obama War Room" photo and dogs on the folks in uniforms. We all know that the cats would be in the rear with the gear while the dogs do all the work.

Rules for Cats to Live By

BATHROOMS: Always accompany guests to the bathroom. It is not necessary to
do anything. Just sit and stare.

DOORS: Do not allow any closed doors in any room. To get door open, stand on
hind legs and hammer with forepaws. Once door is opened, it is not necessary
to use it. After you have ordered an "outside" door opened, stand halfway in
and out and think about several things. This is particularly important
during very cold weather, rain, snow, or mosquito season.

CHAIRS AND RUGS: If you have to throw up, get to a chair quickly. If you
cannot manage in time, get to an Oriental rug. If there is no Oriental rug,
shag is good. When throwing up on the carpet, make sure you back up so it is
as long as a human's bare foot.

HAMPERING: If one of your humans is engaged in some activity and the other
is idle, stay with the busy one. This is called "helping," otherwise known
as "hampering." Following are the rules for "hampering:"

1) When supervising cooking, sit just behind the left heel of the cook. You
cannot be seen and thereby stand a better chance of being stepped on, then
picked up and comforted.

2) For book readers, get in close under the chin, between eyes and book,
unless you can lie across the book itself.

3) For paperwork, lie on the work in the most appropriate manner so as to
obscure as much of the work as possible. Pretend to doze, but every so often
reach out and slap the pencil or pen.

4) For people paying bills or working on income taxes, keep in mind the aim:
to hamper! First, sit on the paper being worked on. When dislodged, watch
sadly from the side of the table. When activity proceeds nicely, roll around
on the papers, scattering them to the best of your ability. After being
removed for the second time, push pens, pencils, and erasers off the table,
one at a time.

5) When a human is holding the newspaper in front of him/her, be sure to
jump on the back of the paper. Humans love to jump.

6) When human is working at computer, jump up on desk, walk across keyboard,
bat at mouse pointer on screen and then lay in human's lap across arms,
hampering progress.

WALKING: As often as possible, dart quickly and as close as possible in
front of the human, especially: on stairs; when they have something in their
arms; in the dark; and when they first get up in the morning. This will help
their coordination skills.

BEDTIME: Always sleep on the human at night so he/she cannot move around.

LITTER BOX: When using the litter box, be sure to kick as much litter out of
the box as possible. Humans love the feel of kitty litter between their
toes.

HIDING: Every now and then, hide in a place where the humans cannot find
you. Do not come out for three to four hours under any circumstances. This
will cause the humans to panic (which they love) thinking you have run away
or are lost. Once you do come out, the humans will cover you with love and
kisses and you will probably get a treat.

ONE LAST THOUGHT: Whenever possible, get close to a human, especially the
face, turn around, and present your butt to them. Humans love this, so do it
often. And don't forget guests.
