Re: Earthquake!

I've messed up good hiking boots on both a'a and pahoehoe. Difference being that I've sliced up the uppers of boots trying to get across a'a that was decades to centuries old, and the only time I managed to mess up boots by walking on pahoehoe was when the rock was probably less than days old and t...

Not proven that he's a racist. More like a xenophobe when you look at the sidewalk incident. Still "cuit ".
Why pick just one? Racism and xenophobia are hardly mutually exclusive.

Re: Any Oenophiles here?

I've had some New York wine before. I probably wouldn't turn down a free glass or two, but I don't think I'd seek it out or purchase it. Some of it wasn't bad, but most of it isn't up to the quality of the house wines at some of the farm-country auberges I've been to in France. Was that NY wine fro...

Re: Earthquake!

From my quick reads and the photos of the eruptions to date, the lava flows have been a'a' lavas. The video that volkonski just posted looks more like a pahoehoe flow. My read from the various reliable sources on Twitter is that the earlier, a'a flows were believed to be from residual magmas from 1...

Re: Earthquake!

How is the Puna Thermal Venture doing? Have they closed down during the eruptions? Are they generating more power because of them? Inquiring minds busybodies want to know. They're trying really hard to shut down and cap the last of their wells so that lava doesn't pour down into it creating a big b...

Given the topic of the linked article, I suspect it means that I'm being inexpertly and inelegantly trolled by someone who seems to know that international investment arbitration (a subject with absolutely no bearing on today's SCOTUS decision) is an area that I've expressed views on in the past.

Re: Gun Control Legislation

Yes, increasing the cost of gun ownership will require people to make careful and considered cost-benefit decisions. In my view, that's a feature, not a bug. I question how much that would actually happen though. Someone in the middle class might have to make a cost-benefit decision about how many ...

Re: Gun Control Legislation

Here’s the goal: make it harder for criminals and mentally unstable people to get and use a gun. AND we should do nothing to deprive law-abiding mentally-stable Americans of gun ownership and use. This is a good example of why I want the CDC really digging into the problem. Even such simple declira...

Most home invasions are not armed, and are someone the homeowner knows. Actually, most of them are well armed. Anyone and everyone involved in drug trafficking is armed to the teeth. Re: Earthquake!

Oh, boy! I just learned about a new hazard! Should the lava enter the ocean be aware of the laze hazard and stay away from any ocean plume. Laze is when hot lava hits the ocean sending hydrochloric acid and steam with fine glass particles into the air. :eek2: Looks like Hwy 130 will be shut down so...
